High pressure-derived nonsymmetrical [Cu2O]2+ core for room-temperature methane hydroxylation

Description: The authors of the article report the high-pressure synthesis of a metastable nonsymmetrical dicopper-μ-oxo compound with exceptional reactivity toward the mono-oxygenation of aliphatic C─H bonds. The nonequivalent coordination environment of copper stabilizes localized mixed valency and greatly enhances the hydrogen atom abstraction activity of the bridging oxygen, enabling room-temperature hydroxylation of methane under pressure. These findings highlight the role of dissymmetry in the reactiv… more

Rapid, high-capacity adsorption of iodine from aqueous environments with amide functionalized covalent organic frameworks

Description: This article asserts that the uses and production of radionuclides in nuclear energy production and medical therapy are becoming more significant in today's world. While these applications have many benefits, they can produce harmful pollutants, such as radioactive iodine, that need to be sequestered. The authors report the highly efficient capture of iodine in a series of mesoporous, two-dimensional (2D) covalent organic frameworks, called COFamides, which contain amide sidechains in their por… more

Experimental and computational studies of the kinetics of the reaction of hydrogen peroxide with the amidogen radical

Description: In this article the pulsed-laser photolysis/laser-induced fluorescence method is used to study the kinetics of the reaction of NH2 with H2O2 to yield a second-order rate constant of (2.42 ± 0.55) × 10−14 cm3 molecule−1 s−1 at 412 K in 10–22 mbar of Ar bath gas. To check this value and enable reliable extrapolation to other temperatures, the authors also compute thermal rate constants for this process over the temperature range 298–3000 K via multi-structural canonical variational transition-sta… more
