The Wang Institute of Graduate Studies: A Historical Perspective

Description: The Wang Institute of Graduate Studies was an independent, non-profit corporate college located Tyngsboro, Massachusetts originated through the benevolence of An Wang. This study focuses on the problems in education and industry that acted as the impetus for this institute and develops a historical perspective of Wang Institute from its inception in 1979 until its end in August, 1987. The study describes the philosophy, organizational structure, curriculum, faculty, and students of Wang Institute. Wang Institute of Graduate Studies no longer exists. The facility used by Wang Institute of Graduate Studies is now known as Wang Institute of Boston University.

Guest Editorial: Near-Death Experiences: A Speculative Neural Model

Description: Article detailing a personal mystical experience that led the author to the belief that a little known structure in the center of the spinal cord, Reissner's fiber, is identical with the anatomical entity described by kundalini yoga. The author's struggles to understand the meaning of that experience have led him to believe that an understanding of the deeper realities underlying quantum phenomena can be integrated with an understanding of the mysterious realities of near-death and other mystical experiences, and that Reissner's fiber can serve as an empirical basis for a scientific investigation of these phenomena.

Condition Survey: Westover Air Force Base, Massachusetts

Description: "The purpose of this report is to present the results of a condition survey performed at Westover Air Force Base (WAFB), Massachusetts, during 21-24 August 1972. The frost action inspection was performed during 7-8 June 1972. The three major areas of interest considered in this condition survey were the structural condition of the primary airfield pavements, the condition of pavement repairs and the types of maintenance materials that have been used at this airfield, and any detrimental effects of frost action to the pavement facilities" (p. 1).

Description: This is a letter from the Charles B. Moore Collection. It is written by E. Hewden to Charles B. Moore. In the letter, Hewden thanks Moore for patronage of his newspaper and acknowledges that Moore is a veteran in free thought. He details that he hopes Moore would live to 100 and still be able to read his newspaper. He closes his letter by expressing his wishes for a successful new ear.

Description: Evening gown of white heavy silk crepe. Full-length sleeveless dress with scoop neck, narrow straps and empire waist. Bodice is heavily beaded with circular mirrors and silver rhinestones. Skirt has vertical columns of mirrored beads and has band of heavy beading on hem matching bodice. Zipper closure at center back. Fully lined in cream fabric with petersham of same fabric. Retailer's label at center back to left of zipper: "Sara Fredericks / Boston Palm Beach"

Description: From Introduction: "Figure 1 shows the location of sources that have been either exploited or seriously considered at one time or another, super-imposed upon a map indicating by small letters the order of consumption of K2O in the leading States; the amount used in these States, together with the percentage of the total consumption of potash used as fertilizer in the United States in 1939, is given in table 1. Figure 2 shows the domestic production and total consumption of potassium salts, in terms of tons of K2O, with the value per unit at the plants, for each year since 1913. Considered together, these two figures tell a significant story."
