[Letter from Jack Davis and Bill McCarter to Gene Davenport, June 19, 1992]

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Jack Davis and Bill McCarter, co-directors of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Gene Davenport, Superintendent of Allen Independent School District. In regards to the U.S. Department of Education efforts in the arts and that Secretary Alexander has initiated the American 2000 Arts Partnership, along with the news that USOE and the National Endowment are funding the development of World Class standards for arts education. Davis and McCarter also write that they are pleased that the Getty Center for Education in the Arts has sent, to Allen's school board president, a package of materials related to enhancing student achievements through art education. Included with the packet is a questionnaire which asks for a report of any action the board has taken in response to the guide to enhancing student achievements.

Edwards writes that their program looks beneficial in expanding the teachers art strategies, however, due to budgeting concerns they are unable to participate this year but hope they will be reached out in the future.

[RE: National Gallery Videodisc Competition, December 8, 1992]

In regards to the National Gallery Videodisc Competition, a competition that North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts had entered. Attached to the letter is a copy of the new release from the Nation Gallery in Washington, D.C. Reynolds writes that they will be one of the recipients of the American Art videodisc and that she encourages other school districts to apply as there are a number of spots still available and the Gallery has extended their deadline. Enclosed with the letter is a Call For Entry Letter from the National Gallery.

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Patsy Sharp to Jack Davis discussing that Charles Davidson, Whataburger's Regional Manager, forwarded a Class Acts proposal to their advertising company. Patsy writes that the Class Acts Advertising Manager, Julie Garinger, has been in contact with the advertising account for Whataburger to discuss consumer responses to the Art-O-Grams, art education newspaper series. As soon as a date is selected, Sharp will be in contact with Bill McCarter to discuss who else should attend the meeting. Copied on the letter is Bill McCarter.

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Jack Davis and Bill McCarter, co-directors of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to Chad Woolery, Deputy Superintendent for Dallas ISD. In regards of Janice Wiggins, Visual Arts Special, Dallas Public Schools and her contract with North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, hoping that she could be under an extended contract through June 14 - 25, 1993 to finish work she has started with three of her art specialists in planning the 1993 Dallas Institute. The Dallas Institute is a complex staff development experience for classroom teachers and art specialists in the district. Included in the letter is a detailed list of Wiggin's responsibility and her expected goals. At the end of the letter Davis and McCarter are excited to consider an interactive television connection with Dallas schools on June 21, 1993 and that Dr. Wilson, cross site evaluator for the Getty Center will be observing the distance learning project.

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Bill McCarter and Nancy Reynolds, North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts, to the Trustees of the Edward and Betty Marcus Foundation. In regards to a project proposed by the San Antonio Museum of Art, SAMA to development a series of art reproductions and presentation for a summer institute to train teachers. McCarter and Reynolds write that they have worked with SAMA since the museum educators attended a Marcus-funded advocacy workshop and believe that their proposal is consistent and similar to NTIEVA's efforts and support their proposal.

In regards to her recent visitation of the elementary school and how the classrooms visited were enthusiastic. Broadus writes that she is thrilled with the eagerness the teachers have begun to implement the discipline-based art education, DBAE into their teaching. Broadus writes that she is happy that other teachers now involved with the institute program, want to implement art related programs into the curriculum and that Burton Hill is lucky to have an art specialists like Carolyn Sherburn for her contribution to the program and school. Broadus ends the letter thank White again for letting her visit Burton Hill.

Duke invites McCarter to be a featured speaker at the breakout session for January 13th, which will focus the highlights of the Regional Institute Directors work in relation to the DBAE, discipline-based art education.

The email is to the "Houston Group" from Jack and Jeff, reminding the group about the press announcement of Transforming Education Through the Arts in Los Angeles, set by Harold Williams and Vartan Gregorian for October 11, 1995. Davis asks of the group who can go to LA and to let Vicki Rosenberg know by September 25th and to let her know how many directors and funders are able to make the trip as well.

[Letter from Kristen Marstaller to Bill McCarter, January 17, 1996]

Description: Photocopy of a letter from Kristen Marstaller, Art / Social Studies Coordinator for the Austin Independent School District to Bill McCarter, co-director of North Texas Institute for Educators on the Visual Arts. To thank McCarter on the behalf of Austin teachers and the presentation he made at the Art Share meeting. Marstaller writes that many of the misunderstandings and misconceptions were cleared up and the faculty was impressed with his knowledge and willingness to assist the Austin District. Martaller will reach out to McCarter at a later date to further discuss the program and ask for suggestions and advice as they proceeded with implementation of DBAE.
