Arco Voltaico

Description: Recording of Teodoro Pedro Cromberg's Arco Voltaico. This is a work for electronics that was created for cellist, Andrea Espinzo. In this piece the cello has been integrated into the electroacoustic mix. Four improvised performances of the cello were taken by the analogical recorder and then used to create different mixtures for the final product.

Gritos y Gritarras

Description: Recording of Teodoro Pedro Cromberg's Gritos y Gritarras. This is a work for electronics that includes voice and guitar as well as sound samples from Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, and Deep Purple songs. The composer has attempted to make these songs and motifs recognizable without compromising the independence of the electroacoustic piece itself. The title is a play on words that is untranslatable; "Gritarras" is a made-up word that means something like the cry of the guitar.

Nuo Ri Lang

Description: Recording of Xiaofu Zhang's "Nuo Ri Lang". Draws inspiration from the composer's visit to Tibet. The composition involves electroacoustic looping techniques and bronze, leather, wood, and stone percussion instruments. Commisioned by the INA-GRM (France) at the international music festival 96 PRESENCES in Paris. There is also a mix edition that combines live performance and electroacoustic music sound and a version that include videos.

Maquinaria del Ansia

Description: Recording of Rogelio Sosa's Maquinaria del Ansia. This composition is an attempt to translate into sound the sensations that are felt during a state of anxiety. The challenge was to create a musical discourse starting from a minimal number of elements, in this case only one recording of a stroke on a wood body was used. This sound, through transformation and manipulation, created all material for this piece.

Camello

Description: Recording of Rubén Hinojosa Chapel and Bérengère de Tarlé's Camello. This work tells an imaginary story by taking elements from real life including the sounds of public transportation in Havana. It is a soundscape of a part of the daily life in Havana. The composer points to the importance of the words in the piece from people speaking and public announcements as it holds symbolism for the Cuban people. This work premiered at the "XIII Festival de La Habana de Música Contemporánea".

The dominant element is noise: "smooth" noise, constant noise, and immutable noise made up of the sum of human machines.

Description: Recording of John Gibson's Thrum. This is an electroacoustic piece that revolves around a wide range of sounds played on an acoustic guitar. Many of the guitar textures were created by a virtual player that read short guitar samples and created a pulsed repetitive texture. The composer's aim was to create music that balances human qualities against the regularity of machines.
