The Devonian Elementary School Library: An Experiment in Quarters and Organization

Description: This silent film documents the activities of librarians, educators, and students using the library at Devonian Elementary School in Andrews, Texas. Title cards are included and are shown here parenthetically. The film begins with children entering the school building ("A School Day Begins" and "Let Us Follow These Three Pupils"). Children enter a library and classroom ("The Library Has Open Sides") and an unidentified person makes marks on a library floor plan. Students demonstrate the process of checking out books ("There is a self-charging system of circulation") with close ups of the library checkout card for "The Book of Indians." Children read and check out books and a teacher checks out a film strip and projector ("Fines and Dates Due are Eliminated").
