Description: The use of fine-particle size (< 40 nm) unsupported catalysts in direct coal liquefaction may result in improved economics due to possible enhanced yields of desired products, the potential for decreasing reaction severity, and the possibility of using less catalyst. Description: During pre-restart testing the safety rod at position X26-YlO bound after being driven approximately two (2) feet out of the reactor. Description: Pi{tilde n}on pine germinating seeds, emergent seedlings, and one-year-old seedlings were exposed to sulfur dioxide under both acute and chronic exposure conditions. Description: The purpose of the following chemical simulant studies is to assess the potential acute environmental effects and persistence of diethyl malonate (DEM). Deposition velocities for DEM to soil surfaces ranged from 0.04 to 0.2 cm/sec. For foliar surfaces, deposition velocities ranged from 0.0002 cm/sec at low air concentrations to 0.05 cm/sec for high dose levels. Acute environmental toxicity and persistence of methyl salicylate: A chemical agent simulant. Final report

Description: The interactions of methyl salicylate with plant foliage and soils were assessed using aerosol/vapor exposure methods. Measurements of deposition velocity and residence times for soils and foliar surfaces are reported. Severe plant contact toxicity was observed at foliar mass-loading levels above 4 {mu}g/cm{sup 2} leaf; however, recovery was noted after four to fourteen days. Acute skin lesions due to localized ``hot particle`` radiation exposures

Description: Purpose of the studies was to determine incidence and severity of lesions resulting from localized deposition of dose to the skin from small (<0.5 mm) discrete radioactive particles. Hanford mini-swine were exposed to localized doses from 0.2 to over 600 Gy (averaged over 1 cm{sup 2} at 70{mu}m depth) from isotopes having max beta particle energies from about 0.3-3 MeV. The acute spectral structure of single-domain YBa sub 2 Cu sub 3 O sub 6. 9

Description: Extraordinarily sharp spectral features at binding energies near 1eV have been observed in the photoemission spectra of untwinned, single crystal YBa{sub 2}Cu{sub 3}O{sub 6.9}. This is the first observation of such distinctive electronic structure away from the near-Fermi Energy regime, It suggests that the entire valence band electronic structure, not merely the Fermiology, may provide insight into the nature of high temperature superconducting cuprates. 10 refs., 5 figs.
