Aerial Radiometric and Magnetic Survey, Goldfield National Topographic Map, California and Nevada

Description: From operational program: This final report includes a general geologic description of the area, including descriptions of the various geologic units and correlates the airborne data to the geologic units as provided by the geologic maps. Also included is a frequency distribution study of the data as a function of the geologic units encountered over the NTMS area including the tie line data. This report also consists of a discussion of the area surveyed and includes all single record reduced data and averaged record data listings on microfiche.

Aerial Radiometric and Magnetic Survey, Tonopah National Topographic Map, Nevada: Volume 1

Description: Abstract: The results of analyses of the airborne gamma radiation and total magnetic field survey flown for the region identified as the Tonopah National Topographic Map NJll-5 is presented in Volume I and II of this report. The airborne data gathered is reduced by ground computer facilities to yield profile plots of the basic uranium, thorium and potassium equivalent gamma radiation intensities, ratios of these intensities, aircraft altitude above the earth's surface, total gamma ray and earth's magnetic field intensity, correlated as a function of geologic units. The distribution of data within each geologic unit, for all surveyed map lines and tie lines, has been calculated and is included. Two sets of profiled data for each line are included with one set displaying the above-cited data. The second set includes only flight line magnetic field, temperature, pressure, altitude data plus magnetic field data as measured at a base station. A general description of the area, including descriptions of the various geologic units and the corresponding airborne data, is included also.

Airborne Gamma-Ray Spectrometer and Magnetometer Survey: Final Report, Volume 2, Mariposa Quadrangle (California, Nevada)

Description: Introduction: The geologic map of the Mariposa quadrangle, which was used as a basis for the interpretation, was supplied by Bendix Field Engineering Corporation. The Formation descriptions in Appendix C are derived from this map supplemented with information from California Division of Mines and Geology (1967).

Attritioning of Temple Mountain Ore

Description: Abstract: The results of both dry and wet attritioning of Temple Mountain ore are presented. In order to obtain effective attritioning on this ore, the amphaltite must be removed before attritioning. With the asphaltite present, dry attritioning causes a build-up of asphaltite on the surface of sand grains, with consequent loss of uranium values. In wet attritioning, the asphaltite is not broken down or attritioned, because of its low specific gravity and resilience.

Beryl-bearing Pegmatites in the Ruby Mountains and Other Areas in Nevada and Northwestern Arizona

Description: From abstract: Pegmatite occurs widely in Nevada and northwestern Arizona, but little mining has been done for such pegmatite minerals as mica, feldspar, beryl, and lepidolite. Reconnaissance for beryl-bearing pegmatite in Nevada and in part of Mohave County, Ariz., and detailed studies in the Dawley Canyon area, Elko County, Nev., have shown that beryl occurs in at least 11 districts in the region. Muscovite has been prospected or mined in the Ruby and Virgin Mountains, Nev., and in Mohave County, Ariz. Feldspar has been mined in the southern part of the region near Kingman, Ariz., and in Clark County, Nev.

The Bowie-Gavin Process: Its Application to the Cracking of Tars and Heavy Oils, Also to the Recovery of Oil from Oil-Soaked Sands or Shales, or from Oil Shales

Description: Technical paper issued by the Bureau of Mines over the Bowie-Gavin process. As stated in the introduction, "this paper describes a process and an apparatus designed to recover oil from such deposits" (p. 1). The results of experiments conducted using this process are discussed. This paper includes tables, illustrations, and photographs.

The Contact Mining District, Nevada

Description: From abstract: This report summarizes the results of a reexamination, in 1930, of the Contact mining district, in Elko County, northern Nevada. A report published as a result of a visit in 1910 summarizes the major features of the geology of the district, and the principal new data in the present paper pertain to mining development occasioned by the completion of a railroad through the camp in 1925.
