Preliminary Raw Data Release: Charlotte 1° x 2° NTMS Area, North Carolina and South Carolina

Description: From abstract: This report presents preliminary results of stream sediment and ground water reconnaissance in the Charlotte National Topographic Map Series (NTMS) 1° x 2° quadrangle. Stream sediment samples were collected from small streams at 1254 sites for a nominal density of one site per 13 square kilometers (five square miles) in rural areas. Ground water samples were collected at 759 sites for nominal density of one site per 25 square kilometers (ten square miles).

Uranium Mineralization in the Wilson Creek and Cranberry Gneisses and the Grandfather Mountain Formation, North Carolina and Tennessee

Description: From abstract: Detailed petrologic investigations were conducted at 74 anomalies that have surface radioactivities of 5 to 300 times background in the Grandfather Mountain region of North Carolina and Tennessee. One or more specimens of radioactive rock and one specimen of nonanomalous (barren) rock were taken for chemical analysis from each of the 74 sites.

Preliminary Study of the Uranium Potential of the Triassic Sanford Basin and Colon Cross Structure, North Carolina

Description: From summary: A preliminary geologic investigation was conducted to determine if the Triassic sedimentary rocks of the Sanford basin and Colon cross structure in North Carolina are favorable hosts for uranium deposits. Rocks of the adjacent Carolina slate belt were also examined as a potential source of uranium

Raleigh 1° x 2° NTMS Area, North Carolina: Data Report (Abbreviated)

Description: From abstract: This abbreviated data report presents results of ground water and stream sediment reconnaissance in the National Topographic Map Series (NTMS) Raleigh l x 2 quadrangle. Surface sediment samples were collected at 1199 sites. Surface water samples were collected at 124 of these sites. Ground water samples were collected at 907 sites. Neutron activation analysis (NAA) results are given for uranium and 16 other elements in sediments, for uranium and 9 other elements in surface water, and for uranium and 8 other elements in ground water. Field measurements and observations are reported for each site. Analytical data and field measurements are presented in tables and maps.

Preliminary Study of the Uranium Potential of the Dan River Triassic Basin System, North Carolina and Virginia

Description: From summary: A preliminary geologic investigation was conducted to determine the uranium potential of the Triassic strata in the Dan River basin system (Dan River, Danville, and Davie County Triassic basins) of North Carolina and Virginia. The pre-Triassic Inner Piedmont basement rocks adjacent to the basins were investigated as potential sources of uranium. Outcrops of Triassic and basement rocks were examined and measured for surface radioactivity by scintillometer. Representative rock and saprolite samples were collected for laboratory analyses.
