Report on SOM Investigations in Arizona (Except the Plateau Province Area)

Description: From summary: Union Mines' examination of Arizona's pegmatites, lode deposits of the central and southeastern parts of the state, and heavy mineral concentrates from few placer deposits indicates that SOM is practically non-existent in the first two and that minor amounts of monazite and possibly other S-37 minerals are present in the last.

Supplemental and Summary Report on Western Carrizo Uplift and Chuska Mountains Areas of Northern Navajo Indian Reservation Northeastern Arizona

Description: General purpose of survey: During the period 1943 and 1944, the primary purpose was to locate, describe, sample, and generally evaluate the SOM-vanadium mineralization in the western Carrizo Uplift and Chuska Mountains Areas. To this end, the areal geology of the areas, with emphasis on the Salt Wash member of the Morrison formation, was mapped. The triangulation and the laying out of leased plots were supplemental parts of this work. The field work in 1945 was for the purpose of collecting add… more

Tabulation or Ore Reserves and Past Production for the Uranium-Vanadium Region of Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona

Description: The tabulations on these pages include all of the known areas in Colorado, Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona having economically important uranium-vanadium deposits of the type which are generally referred to by the terms roscoe-lite and/or carnotite. Though similar deposits are known to exist in other areas they are to be viewed as being little more than mineralogical curiosities.

Manganese Resources of the Artillery Mountains Region, Mohave County, Arizona

Description: From introduction: The sampling on which the estimates of ore reserves in this report are partly based was done by Lasky and Roberts. The text was written by Lasky, who, except where otherwise noted, is responsible for any descriptions, comments, and conclusions concerning the area beyond the limits of the Hanna holdings, as well as for all statements concerning reserves and recommendations for future prospecting.

Reconnaissance Examinations of Copper Uranium Deposits West of the Colorado River

Description: Several relatively small copper-uranium deposits have been found in southwestern Utah along the contact of the Shinarump and Moenkopi formations of Triassic age, at least from the San Rafael Swell area of Emery County, southward through central and eastern Garfield County, southwestward into western Kane County, and westward into the southern part of Washington County.

Annie Laurie Prospect, Santa Cruz County, Arizona

Description: From introduction: The Annie Laurie 'cranium Prospect, in the Oro Blanco district of southern Arizona, is located in the southwest quarter of Sect. 3, T233, R=13. The nearest United States post office is Nogales, about 25 miles east, and the nearest settlement is Ruby, a nearly abandoned mining camp about 3 miles north. Access to the Ruby area is by gravel road from US highway 39 at Kinsley or Nogales. The Ruby quadrangle (1940) includes the area surrounding the prospect.

Radioactivity at the Jim Kane Mine, Mohave County, Arizona

Description: Abstract: About 2,000 tons of low-grade lead ore has been produced from the Jim Kane mine, near Kingman, Mohave County, Ariz. A 3-foot vein of gouge and siderite stringers in pre-Cambrian gneiss contains some lead and, locally, is abnormally radioactive. A sample of the vein contained 0.067 percent uranium. Abnormal radioactivity is restricted to a small part of the vein, and no reserves are calculated.

Uraniferous Quartzite, Red Bluff Prospect, Gila County, Arizona

Description: Abstract: Radioactive zones are present in the upper silty part of the pre-Cambrian Dripping Spring quartzite at the Red Bluff prospect, Gila County, Ariz. The prospect is in the SE 1/4 sec. 31, T. 5 N., R. 14 E., at the southern end of the Sierra Ancha area and 12 miles northeast of Roosevelt Dam. Stratigraphic control of the radioactive zones is indicated by the restriction of the zones to two layers, each about 20 feet thick. The zones are spatially associated in part with a diabase dike that… more

Geology and Ore Deposits of Yazzie Mesa, Apache County, Arizona with Recommendations for Exploration Drilling

Description: Abstract: Yazzie Mesa was examined in May 1951, by the writer, assisted by R. C. Cutter. The mesa shows one main channel deposit and three minor channels. The main channel appears to be a northern extension of a channel deposit being worked by the Vanadium Corporation of America at their Monument No. 2 mine. Two samples taken on the south outcrop of the main channel assayed 0.16% U308 over 4.5 feet and 0.80% U308 over 1 foot. The area is recommended for 10,000 feet of exploration drilling. It i… more

Geology and Mineralization of Hunt's Mesa, Monument Valley, Arizona, Navajo County with Recommendations for Exploration Drilling

Description: Abstract: Hunt's Mesa was examined on June 2 and 3, 1951, by the writer assisted by R. C. Cutter. Two channels were located and studied. Outcrops of the channels are mineralized, the mineralization being of the copper-uranium variety. There are indications that an appreciable quantity of ore can be found by exploration drilling. A program of 25,000 feet of wagon drilling is recommended.

Preliminary Summary of Reconnaissance for Uranium in Arizona

Description: From introduction: A reconnaissance of Arizona uranium deposits was started in October 1950 and continued through April 1951. A total of six man--months was spent by H. C. Granger, E. P. Kaiser, and J. W. Adams. About 40 properties were examined and, of these, six were mapped by plane-table method and six were sketch-mapped. This reconnaissance was not intended as a complete evaluation of all Arizona deposits; other areas and occurrences were not examined during the investigations and are not d… more

Geological Investigation of Mexican Cry Mesa, Lukachukai District, Arizona with Diamond Drilling Recommendations

Description: Abstract: The Salt Wash member of the Jurassic Morrison formation of Mexican Cry Mesa, Lukachukai District, Arizona, was examined to determine size, grade, and distribution of contained carnotite deposits and the possibilities of developing reserves by exploratory drilling. Only three occurrences of carnotite-bearing sandstone were found in 17 miles of rim outcrop. Limited drilling is recommended in the vicinity of these exposures.
