Rocky Flats model 2030-1 container (AEC--AL USA/5332/BLF) safety analysis report for packaging (SARP)

Description: Division, Dow Chemical U.S.A., for shipping unirradiated fissile material in solid form. Components consist of a 30-gal steel drum, Celotex insulation, and stainless steel containment vessel(s) of 10-in. dia. A simple venting system prevents rtupture of the outer drum in the event of accidental fire. Approved material limits include 5 kg of plutonium or 11 kg of enriched uranium. Thermal decay energy is normally limited to 20 W. Results of extensive tests show the container will function effect… more

Atomic absorption spectrometer readout and data reduction using the LSI-11 microcomputer

Description: Some common instruments found in the chemistry laboratory have analog chart recorder output as their primary data readout media. Data reduction from this medium is slow and relatively inaccurate. This paper describes how to interface a single LSI-11 microcomputer to PERKIN-ELMER models 603 and 303 Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometers.

Present and future technology of high voltage systems for neutral beam injections

Description: This paper presents: (1) A brief review of existing neutral beam (NB) power supply technology for operating up to approximately 200 kV, 65 A; (2) Possibilities for using existing systems for next-generation NB sources, and associated problems; (3) A summary of the features of present systems which contribute to a high degree of complexity and/or cost; (4) A plea and proposal for minimizing cost and complexity of future systems operating up to approximately 300 kV; (5) A few comments pertaining … more

Theoretical explanation of present mirror experiments and linear stability of larger scaled machines

Description: A quasilinear model for the evolution of the 2XIIB mirror experiment is presented and shown to reproduce the time evolution of the experiment. From quasilinear theory it follows that the energy lifetime is the Spitzer electron drag time for T/sub e/ approximately less than 0.1T/sub i/. By computing the stability boundary of the DCLC mode, with warm plasma stabilization, the electron temperature is predicted as a function of radial scale length. In addition, the effect of finite length correctio… more

Optimal geothermal resource extraction for electric power applications

Description: A phase of ongoing work at the University or Pennsylvania concerning the analysis of capital investments in the development of geothermal electric power facilities is reported. The phase being addressed deals with determining the optimal rate of extraction of geothermal resources for producing electric power. The mathematical approach for estimating an optimal time-path of production to maximize the net present value of a rate sensitive reservoir is formulated.

Reservoir characteristics in Uinta basin gas wells. Final report, September 1, 1978-January 31, 1980

Description: Volumes of 29 lenticular tight gas sandstone reservoirs in the Uinta Basin, Utah have been approximated from long-term pressure buildups on 6 wells. Average reservoir volume was interpreted to be about 240,000 ft/sup 3/ per ft of net pay. Outcrop reservoir geometry studies indicate an average reservoir volume (without any reservoir interconnection assumed) of about 30% less than the average based upon production analysis. Therefore, some reservoir interconnection may exist. Results of this stud… more

Equipment Capability Study of the Mettler DWA Automatic Filling Balance

Description: A process capability study was made to evaluate the capability of the Mettler DWA Automatic Filling Balance to dispense desired weights of material. Under ideal or relatively normal conditions the balance met the manufacturer's stated rating. For somewhat abnormal material, the rating was not quite met. An additional calculation is given to indicate expected improvement if abnormal material could be weighed under ideal conditions.

Comparison of Public Service Employment Provisions in the Emergency Employment Act of 1971 (P.L. 92-54), the Vetoed Employment and Manpower Act (s. 3867, 91st Congress), and the Proposed Social Security Amendments of 1971 (H. R. 1, 92nd Congress)

Description: This report discusses three legislative proposals related to public service employment provisions which were made as a part of welfare and social security reform bills. Each proposal is compared to the other two through the use of a table.

Computer programs in BASIC language for graphite furnace atomic absorption using the method of additions. Part 1. Operating instructions

Description: These instructions describe how to use BASIC language programs to process data from atomic absorption spectrophotometers using the graphite furnace and the method of additions calibration technique. The instructions cover loading the programs, responding to computer prompts, choosing among various options for processing the data, performing operations with an automatic sampler, and producing reports. How the programs interact with each other is also explained. Examples of computer/operator dial… more
