Raw Data Report: Cave Valley Orientation Study Lund 1° X 2° NTMS Area, Nevada

Description: Abstract: This report presents the results of the Cave Valley, Nevada, orientation study in the Lund 10 X 2* quadrangle of the National Topographic Map Series (NTMS). Wet, dry, and playa sediment samples were collected throughout the 360 km 2 semi-arid, closed basin. Water samples were collected at the few available streams and springs. In addition to neutron activation analysis for uranium and 15 to 20 trace elements on all samples, field and laboratory measurements were made on water samples. Analytical data and field measurements are presented in tabular hardcopy and fiche format. Four full-size overlays for use with the Lund NTMS 1:250,000 quadrangle are included. Water site locations, water sample uranium concentration, sediment site locations, and sediment sample total uranium concentration are shown on the separate overlays. A general description of the area and the rock type distribution is presented. Some of the data in this report have been issued previously in "Preliminary Report on the Cave Valley Pilot Study," GJBX-43(76), August 1976.

Hydrogeochemical and Stream Sediment Reconnaissance Basic Data Report for Winnemucca NTMS Quadrangle, Nevada

Description: From abstract: This report presents the results of the geochemical reconnaissance sampling in the Winnemucca 10 x 20 quadrangle of the National Topographic Map Series (NTMS). We collected wet and dry sediment samples throughout the 18,770-km2 arid to semi-arid area and water samples at available streams, springs and wells. We present neutron activation analyses of uranium and trace elements and other measurements made in the field and laboratory in tabular hardcopy and microfiche format. The report includes 5 full-size overlays for use with the Winnemucca NTMS 1:250,000 quadrangle. Water sampling sites, water-sample uranium and thorium concentrations, sediment sampling sites, and sediment-sample total uranium and thorium concentrations are shown on the separate overlays. We present general geological and structural descriptions of the area, and describe the 12 known uranium occurrences.

Aerial Radiometric and Magnetic Reconnaissance Survey of the Delta Quadrangle, Utah: Final Report, Volume 1. Narrative and Tables

Description: From approach: This survey consisted of aerial gamma-ray spectrometer and magnet-meter data collection including: (1) Coverage of those portions of the Delta, Utah NTMS 1:250,000 scale quadrangle (Figure 1-1) which were not surveyed in 1976 under Bendix Field Engineering Corporation subcontract No. 76-019-L, Texas Instruments (1977a). (2) Reflights of portions of the 1976 flight lines which were out of altitude specifications. (3) Extra flight lines over the 1976 survey area to provide complete detailed coverage of the NW quarter of the quadrangle. The program also included processing and interpretation of the gamma-ray spectrometer data necessary to indicate potential new uranium prospecting areas.

The surveyed area consisted of approximately 3,246 line miles.

Statistical Techniques Applied to Aerial Radiometric Surveys (STAARS): Principal Components Analysis User's Manual

Description: From abstract: A Principal Components Analysis (PCA) program has been written to aid in the interpretation of multivariate aerial radiometric data collected by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) under the National Uranium Resource Evaluation (NURE) program. The variations exhibited by these data have been reduced and classified into a number of linear combinations by using the PCA program. The PCA program then generates histograms and outlier maps of the individual variates. Black and white plots can be made on a Calcomp plotter by the application of follow-up programs. All programs referred to in this guide were written for a DEC-10. From this analysis a geologist may begin to interpret the data structure. Insight into geological processes underlying the data may be obtained.

Summary Geologic Report on Drilling in Western Prescott and Williams Quadrangles: Mohave, Yavapai, and Yuma Counties, Arizona

Description: From abstract: This drilling project in northwestern Arizona consisted of 18 holes drilled to depths ranging from 1,341 to 5,491 feet (409 to 1,673 meters). The holes were sited to determine the lateral extent of the uranium-bearing, paludal/lacustrine strata of the Anderson Mine in Date Creek basin and to obtain additional data to improve the resource estimates for the Date Creek and Big Sandy basins.

A Geologic Report on the San Rafael Swell Drilling Project, San Rafael Swell, Utah

Description: From abstract: Twenty-two holes totaling 34,874 feet (10,629.6 meters) were rotary and core drilled on the northern and western flanks of the San Rafael Swell to test fluvial-lacustrine sequences of the Morrison Formation and the lower part of the Chinle Formation. The objective of the project was to obtain subsurface data so that improved uranium resource estimates could be determined for the area.

Description: From summary: In this first annual report for subcontract BFEC 79-384-E (Uranium in Granites of Southwestern North America) we have established the general geological and geochemical background for our investigations. We describe the regional setting and some important geochemical patterns, constituting a major uranium anomaly, of the Precambrian basement in the Colorado Plateau region. Three of our investigated samples were derived from a portion of this region in central and northern Arizona. We describe the tectonic and petrologic setting for a fourth sample, a granite from the young (Cretaceous) Peninsular Ranges Batholith of southern California.

Geology and Uranium Favorability of the Sonora Pass Region, Alpine and Tuolumne Counties, California

Description: From project objectives: The Sonora Pass region was identified by the U. S. Department of Energy (DOE) as a potential uranium resource area because of past uranium production at the Juniper Mine and reported high-grade occurrences in other buried fluvial channels which are Tertiary in age. Preliminary Study of the Uranium Potential of the Dan River Triassic Basin System, North Carolina and Virginia

Description: From summary: A preliminary geologic investigation was conducted to determine the uranium potential of the Triassic strata in the Dan River basin system (Dan River, Danville, and Davie County Triassic basins) of North Carolina and Virginia. The pre-Triassic Inner Piedmont basement rocks adjacent to the basins were investigated as potential sources of uranium. Outcrops of Triassic and basement rocks were examined and measured for surface radioactivity by scintillometer. Representative rock and saprolite samples were collected for laboratory analyses.
