Sector 30 collimator radiation

Description: The collimators at Sector 30 of the SLAC accelerator are designed to scrape off a significant fraction (e.g., {approximately}20%) of the SLC beam. The electromagnetic cascade shower that develops in the collimator, and in the scraper and waveguide downbeam, leads to very high radiation exposures of TV cameras (and other devices) located nearby. Remediating biofouling of reverse osmosis membranes

Description: Several potential additives and the use of influent pH adjustment were examined to remediated the biofouling problem of the ETF reverse osmosis (RO) system. Tests were conducted with simulated RO feed containing salt, metal hydroxides and bacteria. The addition of sodium hexametaphosphate (SHMP), sodium bisulfite, and adjusting the influent pH to 3 were each successful in reducing the RO biofouling. Measurements of the Fermilab 200 MeV transfer line quadrupole magnets

Description: This report presents the results of measurements of two quadrupole magnets that are used in the 200 MeV transfer line. The measurements were performed to obtain data to evaluate the suitability of these magnets for use in a 400 MeV transfer line once the Linac Upgrade is complete. Anti-proton tune measurements for the Fall 1995 accelerator studies

Description: A system to measure the tunes of a single antiproton (or proton) bunch was built and has been commissioned. The system achieved high sensitivity with a novel closed-orbit suppression system. The use of high bandwidth directional pickpus and kickers in conjunction with precise timing gates enabled the measurement of the tune of a single bunch.

Primary water stress corrosion cracking of Alloy 600: Effects of processing parameters

Description: Correlations of stress corrosion cracking (SCC) data in deaerated water with temperature, stress, metallography, and processing for laboratory test specimens are presented. Initiation time data show that a low temperature anneal and resulting absence of grain boundary carbides result in a material having increased susceptibility to SCC. Positron annihilation study of Sr Doping in La{sub 2-x}Sr{sub x}CuO{sub 4}

Description: We present a combined experimental and threshold study of effects of Sr doping on electronic structure of La{sub 2-x}Sr{sub x}CuO{sub 4}. Electron-positron momentum distributions have been measured to high statistical precision (> 4 {times} 10{sup 8} counts) at room temperature for samples with Sr concentrations of x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.13 and 0.2. Orientational phase transitions in alloys

Description: Plastic crystal behavior is observed in semiconducting CsPb and NaSn at high temperature (600 and 500 C, respectively). This behavior is associated with M{sub 4}{sup 4{minus}} or A{sub 4}M{sub 4} structural units orientationally disordering about 50 C below the melting point where translational disorder sets in. The effects of 450 kg surface explosions at the E layer of the ionosphere. Los Alamos Source Region Project

Description: A network of hf ionospheric sounders consisting of two transmitter and two receiver stations was deployed to detect the effects of acoustic waves generated by surface ground motion following an underground nuclear test (UGT) at the Nevada Test Site.
