Description: From introduction: The purpose of an airborne radioactivity survey is to locate ground areas of higher than normal radioactivity which might lead to discovery of uranium mineralization. For this type of survey, gamma-ray detection equipment employing either a geiger counter or a scintillation counter can be mounted in a fixed wing aircraft or a helicopter.

Non-Core Dry Hole Drilling at Cove Mesa, Arizona

Description: Abstract: A drilling program was conducted by the Atomic Energy Commission on Cove Mesa, Arizona to further develop uranium and vanadium ore reserves that are vital to the National Defense. The drilling was performed by the Minerals Engineering Company of Grand Junction, Colorado. Uranium and vanadium ore horizons are found in the Salt Wash member of the Morrison formation on Cove Mesa.

Uranium-Copper Deposits Near Copper Canyon Navajo Indian Reservation, Arizona

Description: From introduction: During the summer of 1951, Navajos conducted John W. Chester, Russell C. Cutter, and E. V. Reinhardt, Grand Junction Exploration Branch, U. S. Atomic Energy Commission, to a copper deposit in Copper Canyon. Little radioactivity was noted, and no further work was done in the area at that time. In October 1951, the same group of Navajos reported the discovery of uranium ore in another portion of the same area. The site was visited by Cutter who noted that an excavation made by the Navajos had disclosed a 3-foot thickness of low-grade uranium ore. In November 1951, Cutter again visited the area and observed that the Navajos had opened a 5-foot face of good ore.

Geology and Drilling Recommendations Oak Spring Area Apache County, Arizona, and San Juan County, New Mexico

Description: Abstract: Uranium ore deposits on two exposed rims and past production records of tonnage and grade indicate an exploration program is justified in the Oak Springs area. A minimum of 24,000 feet of core drilling is recommended with a maximum of 75,000 feet to be based on favorability as determined by subsurface studies.

Annie Laurie Prospect, Santa Cruz County, Arizona

Description: From introduction: The Annie Laurie 'cranium Prospect, in the Oro Blanco district of southern Arizona, is located in the southwest quarter of Sect. 3, T233, R=13. The nearest United States post office is Nogales, about 25 miles east, and the nearest settlement is Ruby, a nearly abandoned mining camp about 3 miles north. Access to the Ruby area is by gravel road from US highway 39 at Kinsley or Nogales. The Ruby quadrangle (1940) includes the area surrounding the prospect.

Geology and Mineralization of Hunt's Mesa, Monument Valley, Arizona, Navajo County with Recommendations for Exploration Drilling

Description: Abstract: Hunt's Mesa was examined on June 2 and 3, 1951, by the writer assisted by R. C. Cutter. Two channels were located and studied. Outcrops of the channels are mineralized, the mineralization being of the copper-uranium variety. There are indications that an appreciable quantity of ore can be found by exploration drilling. A program of 25,000 feet of wagon drilling is recommended.

Geology and Ore Deposits of Yazzie Mesa, Apache County, Arizona with Recommendations for Exploration Drilling

Description: Abstract: Yazzie Mesa was examined in May 1951, by the writer, assisted by R. C. Cutter. The mesa shows one main channel deposit and three minor channels. The main channel appears to be a northern extension of a channel deposit being worked by the Vanadium Corporation of America at their Monument No. 2 mine. Two samples taken on the south outcrop of the main channel assayed 0.16% U308 over 4.5 feet and 0.80% U308 over 1 foot. The area is recommended for 10,000 feet of exploration drilling. It is not intended to recommend this footage as a separate contract unit as this report covers only a small part of an area in which drilling will be recommended in forthcoming reports.

Results of Diamond Drilling Mesas 1, 2, 3, and 4, Lukachukai Mountains, Northeastern Arizona

Description: From purpose and scope: Diamond drill exploration of the Lukachukai district was undertaken to find minable bodies of uranium ore and to determine whether sufficient reserves were present to warrant construction of a local mill. A minimum of 30,000 feet and a maximum of 50,000 feet of drilling were assigned to block out ore in the discovery area, Mesa I (pl. 1.). It was anticipated that some of the footage might be used to test Mesa II should the area become accessible. With access to Mesas II and IV subsequently provided by roads constructed by F. A. Sitton, Inc., and access to Mesa III furnished by a road constructed by the Atomic Energy Commission, the area available for drilling was eventually increased by some three and a half times. With no increase in allotted footage, the hole density was correspondingly decreased,

Geological Investigation of Mexican Cry Mesa, Lukachukai District, Arizona with Diamond Drilling Recommendations

Description: Abstract: The Salt Wash member of the Jurassic Morrison formation of Mexican Cry Mesa, Lukachukai District, Arizona, was examined to determine size, grade, and distribution of contained carnotite deposits and the possibilities of developing reserves by exploratory drilling. Only three occurrences of carnotite-bearing sandstone were found in 17 miles of rim outcrop. Limited drilling is recommended in the vicinity of these exposures.

Calculation of Stagewise Contacting Systems

Description: From abstract: General expressions relating product stream compositions to the operating conditions of countercurrent stagewise extraction columns are derived by an inductive method, and the conversion of the general equations to ones involving the particular case of constant extraction factor is demonstrated. For comparison, the derivation of simple column equations by the use of finite difference equations is included.
