An Automatic Count and Control System for a Beta-Ray Spectrometer

Description: From abstract: An electromechanical automatic count and control unit for a beta-ray spectrometer is described. The count control unit provides for constant or time limited recording of data and actuates an automatic stepping system which sweeps a well regulated motor generator power supply over 100 increments of focusing magnet current.

Primary Sedimentary Trend Indicators as Applied to Ore Finding in the Carrizo Mountains, Arizona and New Mexico

Description: Abstract: Field and laboratory study of primary sedimentary features of the Salt Wash sandstone was undertaken to learn if these structures can be of use in finding hidden deposits of ore and also if they have influenced the localization of either individual ore deposits or larger mineralized districts.

Fracture Pattern of the Zuni Uplift: Final Report

Description: Abstract: The objectives of this study have been to determine the nature of the major fracture pattern of the Zuni uplift; to analyze this pattern for evidence of the mode of origin of the uplift; and to compare the fracturing in the ore areas with that elsewhere on the uplift to see whether diagnostic features exist hat might make it possible to indicate other favorable areas.

Reconnaissance in the Western Part of the Trans-Pecos Region of Texas

Description: Abstract: The Trans-Pecos region of southwest Texas is noted for the production of quicksilver, lead, silver, and copper from its several mining districts. Reconnaissance, which was concentrated in and around these districts, revealed many areas of slightly abnormal radioactivity. Only a few areas, however, showed uranium mineralization.

Buffalo Creek Monazite Placer, Cleveland and Lincoln Counties, North Carolina

Description: Introduction: The investigation of monazite deposits in the southeastern states by the Bureau of Mines and the Geological Survey on behalf on the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission was prompted by the history of past production and the many communications reporting the occurrence of monazite in this area.

Experimental Simulation of Plateau Type Uranium Deposits

Description: From abstract: Experimental simulation of Colorado Plateau type uranium deposits is divided into seven parts. The first three summarize the essential features of geological occurrence for the ores. The last four parts outline the results of experimental investigation arranged according to each geological group of features influencing mode of occurrence.

Knob Creek Monazite Placer, Cleveland County, North Carolina

Description: From abstract: The area comprising the first flood plain downstream from the headwaters of Knob Creek was one of three monazite placer deposits near Shelby, N. C., recommended by the Geological Survey for investigation by the Bureau of Mines as a joint effort by the above two agencies. Past production of monazite from the headwaters of this stream and its drainage of an area of known source rocks were factors influencing this selection. Drilling of the deposit was started on November 26, 1951, … more

Preliminary Reconnaissance of the Dripping Spring Quartzite Formation in Gila and Pinal Counties, Arizona

Description: Abstract: A four-week reconnaissance of certain portions of the mountainous area in Gila and Pinal Counties, Arizona, was undertaken in March and April, 1953, to inspect accessible outcrops of Dripping Spring quartzite, a pre-Cambrian formation which has lately attracted the interest of the Atomic Energy Commission by the discovery of two separate occurrences of uranium mineralization. Although no new deposits were found during the field work, a more thorough examination of the quartzite seems … more
