Introduction: During the winter of 1951-52 the Bureau of Mines, upon the recommendation of the Geological Survey, conducted a churn drill exploration program on monazite placer deposits in the flood plains of several streams in Cleveland and Rutherford Counties in southwestern North Carolina.
