Seven New White-winged Doves from Mexico, Central America, and Southwestern United States

Description: Seven new subspecies of the white-winged dove (Zenaida asiatica) are described. The patterns of these recoveries are an invaluable aid to understanding racial distribution of this species. The extent of migration that breed in Central America is not yet adequately known. The range of the doves extends as far north as the southwestern United States.

Acoustic Flowmeter Prototype Evaluation Tests

Description: Summary: "Prototype tests of an acoustic flowmeter system were made in a 24-ftdiam power penstock at Oahe Dam to evaluate the system prior to permanent installation in the outlet works at Summersville Dam. Comparative discharge measurements included acoustic, penstock pressure-momentum (Gibson), turbine model test ratings, scroll-case pressure differential (Winter-Kennedy flowmeter), and surge tank volume changes. The acoustic flowmeter measurements were very consistent and many of the comparis… more

Geology of the Hot Sulphur Springs quadrangle, Grand County, Colorado

Description: Scope and Purpose of Work: The quadrangle was mapped as part of the U.S. Geological Survey program of classifying and evaluating lands in the Public Domain. Mineral rights for coal had been retained in parts or all of Tps. 2 and 3 N., Rs. 77, 78, and 79 W. These areas are in part underlain by sedimentary rocks of Late Cretaceous(?) and early Tertiary age (Middle Park Formation), and in North Park these rocks are called the Coalmont Formation and contain coal. The chief purpose of the work was t… more
