Potash Salts from Texas-New Mexico Polyhalite Deposits: Commercial Possibilities, Proposed Technology, and Pertinent Salt-Solution Equilibria
Description: From Introduction: "Figure 1 shows the location of sources that have been either exploited or seriously considered at one time or another, super-imposed upon a map indicating by small letters the order of consumption of K2O in the leading States; the amount used in these States, together with the percentage of the total consumption of potash used as fertilizer in the United States in 1939, is given in table 1. Figure 2 shows the domestic production and total consumption of potassium salts, in terms of tons of K2O, with the value per unit at the plants, for each year since 1913. Considered together, these two figures tell a significant story."
Creator: Conley, John E. & Partridge, Everett P.
Description: From Introduction: "Work on this project was begun early in 1944; and the results with respect to shale oil are reported in this Bulletin. Since this bulletin is only an index to this large repository of ideas relating to the the treatment of shale oil, the material is presented in the form of short notices describing the subject material of each patent, which consist of an abridgment of the patent (if British or Australian) or a typical claim in the case of the United States or foreign patents."

Burning Washington Coals on Different Types of Domestic Stokers in the Same Hot-Water Boiler: Comparison with Hand and Oil Firing
Description: From Purpose and Scope: "This bulletin presents the results of an investigation of domestic stokers at the Northwest Experiment Station of the Bureau of Mines. Previous publications have dealt with the burning characteristics of Washington coals on a domestic overfeed stoker, a clinker-type domestic underfeed stoker, and an ash-removal-type domestic underfeed stoker designed for burning anthracite. This report includes all the principal results obtained on the three domestic stokers tested and compares these results with those obtained on the same hot-water boiler by hand-firing and oil-firing."

Description: From Introduction: "This presentation (pt. 1) is what might be termed a qualitative syllabus, in that uses only are indicated, no attempt being made to evaluate a clay quantitatively, that is, to grade for particular uses. In part 2, which is to follow, the work will be amplified both qualitatively and quantitatively. In the first, preliminary tests are made to eliminate from consideration all nonclay minerals or clay minerals containing such large amounts of impurities as to render them unfit for normal uses and also to make a broad general classification of the clay minerals into the kaolinite (shales and clays) and montmorillonite groups. In the second step, the main tests, divided into two general headings, ceramic and noncermaic, are detailed."

Contributions to the Data on Theoretical Metallurgy: [Part] 9. The Entropies of Inorganic Substances. Revision (1940) of Data and Methods of Calculation
Description: From Introduction: "This bulletin originally was planned as a second revision of the first member of this series, the first revision (249) having appeared in 1936; however, because of requests for the explanatory, section of the first bulletin from those teaching thermodynamics, it was decided to combine the information in the first bulletin and its revision with the data that have appeared since 1935 and to repeat the explanatory material in somewhat more detail. The purpose of this bulletin is therefore to give the available values of the entropies at 298.1 degrees K. of the elements and inorganic compounds, together with enough explanation of the methods employed in calculating entropies to make the results comprehensible."
