Problems Facing Coal Mining and Gas Production in the Hartshorne Coalbeds of the Western Arkoma Basin, Oklahoma
This report provides pertinent geologic information for long-range planning of subsurface coal and gas production from the Hartshorne Coalbeds. Problems encountered include the complex distribution of minable and un-minable coal, high methane content and bed pressure, faulting, variations in degree of dip, presence of natural gas fields in associated sandstones, and legal problems.
An Assessment of the Collection and Analysis of Hydrologic Data by Private Contractors for the U.S. Geological Survey
From abstract: During fiscal years 1978 through 1981, the U.S. Geological Survey contracted for the acquisition and analysis of hydrologic data from 104 surface water stations, 26 ground water stations, and 15 precipitation gages as well as for several hundred miscellaneous surface water measurements of flow and water quality. The work was performed in Montana, North Dakota, Wyoming, Utah, New Mexico, and Oklahoma, terminating at the end of the fiscal year 1981. This report is an assessment of this contracting effort from the standpoint of cost and of quality control measures employed to ensure an acceptable product.
Estimating 1980 Ground-Water Pumpage for Irrigation on the High Plains in Parts of Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and Wyoming
From introduction: This report describes the results of 1980 sampling of ground-water pumpage for irrigation on the High Plains, one phase of the High Plains Regional Aquifer-System Analysis project. These data were collected to estimate the volume of irrigation water pumped during 1980 and to determine current trends in irrigation pumpage on the High Plains.

The system is general and can easily be adapted for other studies. This report documents the High Plains data base as well as the general system that is independent of the High Plains area.

National Uranium Resource Evaluation: Lawton Quadrangle, Oklahoma and Texas
From purpose and scope: The Lawton Quadrangle, Oklahoma and Texas (Fig. 1), was evaluated to a depth of 1500 m (5,000 ft) to identify geologic environments and delineate areas that exhibit characteristics favorable for uranium deposits. Determination of uranium favorability was based on the similarity of geologic characteristics to the National Uranium Resource Evaluation (NURE) recognition criteria described in Mickle and Mathews (eds., 1978).
