A Data-Management System for Areal Interpretive Data for the High Plains in Parts of Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and Wyoming

Description: From abstract: The High Plains Regional Aquifer System Analysis study has developed a regional water-resources (and related) data storage and retrieval system to organize and preserve areal interpretive data. The system is general and can easily be adapted for other studies. This report documents the High Plains data base as well as the general system that is independent of the High Plains area.

Estimating 1980 Ground-Water Pumpage for Irrigation on the High Plains in Parts of Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and Wyoming

Description: From introduction: This report describes the results of 1980 sampling of ground-water pumpage for irrigation on the High Plains, one phase of the High Plains Regional Aquifer-System Analysis project. These data were collected to estimate the volume of irrigation water pumped during 1980 and to determine current trends in irrigation pumpage on the High Plains.

Hydrogeochemical and Stream Sediment Reconnaissance Basic Data for O'Neill NTMS Quadrangle (South Dakoka, Nebraska)

Description: "Results of a reconnaissance geochemical survey of the O'neill Quadrangle are reported. Field and laboratory data are presented for 23 groundwater and 292 stream sediment samples. Statistical distributions and symbol plots for uranium and possible uranium-related variables are enclosed. A generalized geologic map and producing horizon map for the survey area are provided. Pertinent geologic factors that may be of significance in evaluating the potential for uranium mineralization are briefly di… more

Machine-Readable Data Files from the Madison Limestone and Northern Great Plains Regional Aquifer System Analysis Projects, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming

Description: Abstract: This report lists the machine-readable data files developed for the Madison Limestone and Northern Great Plains Regional Aquifer System Analysis (RASA) projects that are stored on magnetic tape and available from the U.S. Geological Survey. Record format, file content, and size are given for: (1) Drill-stem-test data for Paleozoic and Mesozoic formations; (2) geologic data from the Madison Limestone project; (3) data sets used in the regional simulation model; (4) hydraulic-head data … more

Mineralogy and Stratigraphy of the Lower Part of the Pierre Shale, South Dakota and Nebraska

Description: From abstract and introduction: Mineralogic and stratigraphic studies of the lower part of the Pierre Shale of Late Cretaceous age along the Missouri River indicate correlations different from those generally accepted. The purposes of this paper are to present evidence for the new correlations and to resolve problems of formal nomenclature that result from them.

National Uranium Resource Evaluation: Hot Springs Quadrangle, South Dakota and Nebraska

Description: From Introduction: "The Hot Springs Quadrangle covers an area of approximately 18,500 km2 and is in southwestern South Dakota and northwestern Nebraska between latitudes 43º to 44ºN. and longitudes 102º to 104ºW. (Fig. 1). The quadrangle was evaluated at the surface and in the subsurface to a depth of 1500 m to identify geologic environments and delineate areas that exhibit characteristics favorable for uranium deposits."

Preliminary Digital Model of Ground-Water Flow in the Madison Group, Powder River Basin and Adjacent Areas, Wyoming, Montana, South Dakota, North Dakota, and Nebraska

Description: Abstract: A digital simulation model was used to analyze regional ground-water flow in the Madison Group aquifer in the Powder River Basin and adjacent areas. Most recharge to the aquifer originates in or near the outcrop areas of the Madison in the Bighorn Mountains and Black Hills , and most discharge occurs through springs and wells. Results from the model calculations indicate that the total flow through the aquifer in the modeled areas was approximately 200 cubic feet per second (5.7 cubic… more
