Analysis of Stream Quality in the Yampa River Basin, Colorado and Wyoming

Description: From introduction: This report relates to the first of the above objectives by describing stream quality in the Yampa River basin through 1976, with particular emphasis on conditions from August 1975 through September 1976. The content of this report is, at times, relatively technical. This is intentional. The report is aimed not at planners and decision makers but rather at those persons assigned the task of having to design, implement, and interpret a river basin assessment. The techniques an… more

Chemical and Physical Characteristics of Precipitation at selected Sites in Florida

Description: From abstract: This report critically reviews historical precipitation data collected by the U.S. Geological Survey and concludes that the while the data "may reflect local atmospheric quality conditions they likely do not define baseline conditions from a regional perspective." It contains maps, graphs, and tables.

Chemical, Physical, and Radiological Quality of Selected Public Water Supplies in Florida, January-May 1979

Description: Abstract: Most public water supplies sampled in Florida meet the National Interim Primary and Proposed Secondary Drinking Water Regulations. This conclusion is based on a water quality reconnaissance of 131 raw and treated public supplies throughout the State during the period January through May 1979. In a few public supplies, primary drinking water regulation maximum contaminant levels were exceeded for mercury, turbidity, and gross alpha particle activity. Secondary drinking water regulation… more

Comparison of Tracer Methods and Predictive Equations for Determination of Steam-Reaeration Coefficients on Three Small Streams in Wisconsin

Description: From abstract: Four modified nonradioactive-tracer methods and twenty predictive equations for determination of stream-reaeration coefficients (K2) in three small Wisconsin streams were compared with the radioactive-tracker methods developed by Tsivoglu.

Digital-Simulation and Projection of Head Changes in the Potomac-Raritan-Magothy Aquifer System, Coastal Plain, New Jersey

Description: From abstract: A digital model was used to simulate the response of the Potomac-Raritan-Magothy aquifer system to pumping stresses during the 18-year period, 1956-73. The model was used to compute projected potentiometric heads and trends to the year 2000. Three sets of conditions were simulated: (1) no increase in ground-water extractions, (2) continued growth in ground-water extractions at the rate of 3 percent annually, and (3) continued growth in ground-water extractions at the rate of 3 pe… more

Distribution of Nitrate in the Unsaturated Zone, Highland-East Highlands Area, San Bernardino County, California

Description: From abstract: "This study was made to describe the distribution of inorganic nitrogen and other chemical constituents and nitrogen-using bacteria in the unsaturated zone, to relate nitrogen occurrences, in a general way, to present and historical land use, and to attempt to predict nitrogen concentrations in ground water after recharge" within the Highland-East Highlands area of San Bernardino County, California. It includes maps, graphs, and tables.

Effects of the Rate of Releases from Sam Rayburn Reservoir on the Aeration Capacity of the Angelina River, Eastern Texas

Description: From abstract: This report presents the results of a "three-phase study [. . .] to determine the effects of varying release rates through the power-outlet works at Sam Rayburn Reservoir on aeration capacity of a fourteen-mile reach of the Angelina River below Sam Rayburn Dam." It includes a map, graphs, and tables.

Evaluating Methods for Determining Water Use in the High Plains in Parts of Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and Wyoming; 1979

Description: From introduction: "The U.S. Geological Survey began a 5-year study of the High Plains regional aquifer during the 1978 to provide the hydrologic information needed for the development of computer models to evaluate the aquifer's response to ground-water management alternatives." It contains maps, graphs, and tables.

Flood of August 31--September 1, 1978, in Crosswicks Creek Basin and Vicinity, Central New Jersey

Description: From abstract: "A thunderstorm during the evening of August 31 and the morning of September 1, 1978, caused flooding in a small area of South-central New Jersey. Maximum peaks of record occurred on the Upper Crosswicks Creek basin in the vicinity of Fort Dix, Wrightstown, and New Egypt. At New Egypt, high water crest elevations for Crosswicks Creek were approximately four feet higher than the previous maximum recorded on August 28, 1971.
