Compact Thermoelectric Converter Development Program. Quarterly Progress Report No. 3 for the Period July 1, 1967-September 30, 1967

Description: Program effort was redirected toward more component studies and less assembly of full modules. This principal increases of component effort was in the thermoelement assembly area where studies of alternate bonds and barrier layers were instituted. Effort in the beryllia ceramic area was increased to provide a higher quality product. Test and evaluation was continued on the flexible connector and on the hot and cold heat exchanger plates with satisfactory results.

Computer Program for Calculating the Boundary Layer Properties Along the Surface of Turbomachinery Blades

Description: This report describes a computer program for calculating the boundary layer properties along the suction and pressure surface of turbomachinery blades. These properties include the momentum thickness, displacement thickness, full thickness, and the form factor. A necessary input to the program is the surface velocity at a number of points on the suction and pressure side of the blade. The calculation is by the method of Truckenbrodt, but assumes that the boundary layer is turbulent along the en… more

Geological Reconnaissance of the Sulphur River and Cypress Creek Basins, Texas

Description: This report is concerned with that part of the Texas Water Project located in the Cypress Creek and Sulphur River Basins and within the New Orleans District (NOD) of the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers. The geological reconnaissance reported herein was performed for the NOD to provide a basis for estimating costs and determining the feasibility of construction of 5 dams and reservoirs, 1 tunnel, 15 pump stations, and about 110 miles of transmission channel and the enlargement of 2 existing reserv… more

Laboratory Studies of Al-Ni-U Bonding: Interim Report

Description: The purpose of this report is to summarize laboratory work concerning Al-Ni-U bonding. It was initiated by an analysis of the literature and hot die size bonding in particular. A hot die size bond has three major deficiencies. It is possible that one or more of the deficiencies could be alleviated by adjusting the hot die size bonding conditions, but most likely at the expense of aggravating the other deficiencies. To date the HDSB process has been superbly engineered to yield a high quality bo… more

Lithium-aluminum separations request

Description: A test irradiation of lithium was recently completed in one of the Hanford K Reactors. It is requested that these lithium-aluminum alloy targets be separated and analyzed for tritium content. This request is for the analysis to be performed on two groups or batches of samples. The first group would be 38 elements with a total gas content estimated to be approximately 97 liters. The second batch would consist of 76 elements with a total gas content estimated to be approximately 193 liters. This … more

MFC study - krypton and xenon recovery

Description: As commercial fuels reprocessing develops, large quantities of radioactive and stable fission rare gases will become available. These gases pose both a problem and an opportunity. When efficient methods of control and recovery are developed, the cost of these materials will be greatly reduced. With increased availability and reduced costs, commercial and government applications would be accelerated. Thus the fission gases which present potential environmental problems, would become useful by-pr… more
