THE (5-PHENYL-2-OXAZOLYL)PYRIDINES AS FLUORESCENT pH INDICATORS. AN APPLICATION TO CHEMICAL RADIATION DOSIMETRY

Description: The three isomeric (5-phenyl-2-oxazolyl)pyridines have been shown to be sensitive fluorescent pH indicators which show a pronounced change to increased visible fluorescence as the pH is lowered. Absorption and fluorescence spectral data and pK values are given. Selective excitation of fluorescence from the conjugate acid in the presence of the free base was found possible. Boron and zirconium from crucible refractories in a complex heat-resistant alloy

Description: In a laboratory study of the factors involved in the influence of induction vacuum melting on 55ni-20cr-15co-4mo-3ti-3al heat resistant alloy, it was found that the major factor was the type of ceramic used as the crucible. The study concluded that trace amounts of boron or zirconium derived from reaction of the melt with the crucible refactories improved creep-rupture properties at 1,600 degrees F. Boron was most effective and, in addition, markedly improved hot-workability.

Description: Absolute calibration of neutron yields from a polonium nitrate- fluorocarbon interface gave 8 neutrons/min, sq cm, mc/ml. COMPRESSIBILITY FACTORS AND FUGACITY COEFFICIENTS CALCULATED FROM THE BEATTIE-BRIDGEMAN EQUATION OF STATE FOR HYDROGEN, NITROGEN, OXYGEN, CARBON DIOXIDE, AMMONIA, METHANE, AND HELIUM

Description: Compressibility factors and fugacity coefficients for hydrogen, niftrogen, oxygen, carbon dioxide, ammonia, methane, and helium were calculated by use of the Beattie-Bridgeman equation of state. The results are tabulated for various pressures up to several hundred atmospheres, and temperatures up to several hundred degrees, at sufficiently close intervals to allow for easy interpolation. Coolant water transient in K Reactor following line rupture

Description: This investigation is the second study of short period flow decay in the Hanford reactors. The first study was made on the D-Reactor. As in the analysis for D-Reactor quantitative analyses were made for ruptures that might result from sabotage. A visual inspection of the entire process water piping system was also made to check for any glaring deficiencies with respect to earthquake resistance. A brief discussion of the earthquake resistance of the system is also included in this report.
