From Introduction: "In this paper are presented the results obtained to date from the inspections of steel pilings. The investigation will be continued by additional inspections of pilings in other parts if the country in order to cover a wider range of soil environments."
Summary: "This report provides data on the alluvial aquifer of the Lower Mississippi Valley in the area between Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Port Gibson, Mississippi. Maps are presented of the Tertiary surface on which the alluvial aquifer rests as well as the geology of this surface and the areas where hydrologic recharge to the alluvial aquifer may occur. A set of piezometric-surface maps, together with hydrographs of observation wells, river stages, precipitation rates, and data on the hydrologic properties of the alluvium, makes it possible to calculate changes which take place in the aquifer. Further data are presented on the chemical quality of groundwater. The relevance of these data to engineering problems is discussed" (p. ix).
From introduction: Oil and gas wells and related facilities of the Baxterville field were surveyed to document any physical changes resulting from the Salmon Event. All such structures within a 5-mile radius of Ground Zero were examined and photographed in detail.
Report providing information about experiments performed on core samples taken from the Tatum Salt Dome in Mississippi with an appendix about similar core samples from Louisiana. "All samples were examined petrographically before being subjected to physical tests to develop information on texture, fabric, structure, and composition" (p. vii).
"Approximately 1000 references to published and unpublished items of geologic literature were selected as being pertinent to engineering problems experienced by the Lower Mississippi Valley Division (LMVD) and its districts. Annotations were prepared for about 600 of the references" (p. vii).
