A-01 metals in stormwater runoff evaluation

Description: As a part of the A-01 investigation required by the NPDES permit, an investigation was performed to ascertain the concentrations of metals specifically copper (Cu), lead (Pb), and zinc (Zn) in stormwater being discharged through the outfall. This information would indicate whether all water being discharged would have to be treated or if only a portion of the discharged stormwater would have to be treated. 20% Partial Siberian Snake in the AGS.

Description: An 11.4% partial Siberian snake was used to successfully accelerate polarized proton through a strong intrinsic depolarizing spin resonance in the AGS. No noticeable depolarization was observed. This opens up the possibility of using a 20% to 30% partial Siberian snake in the AGS to overcome all weak and strong depolarizing spin resonances. Some design and operation issues of the new partial Siberian snake are discussed.

Description: The D Pile was down five times for scheduled shutdowns. The fifth shutdown was of short duration for the purpose of discharging temporary ``P`` columns. Details of the shutdowns are given. Three new bismuth columns were established, Special Requests were charged into seven tubes and three Special Requests were discharged. 2D radiation-magnetohydrodynamic simulations of SATURN imploding Z-pinches

Description: Z-pinch implosions driven by the SATURN device at Sandia National Laboratory are modeled with a 2D radiation magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) code, showing strong growth of magneto-Rayleigh Taylor (MRT) instability. Modeling of the linear and nonlinear development of MRT modes predicts growth of bubble-spike structures that increase the time span of stagnation and the resulting x-ray pulse width. The All Particle Monte Carlo method: Atomic data files

Description: Development of the All Particle Method, a project to simulate the transport of particles via the Monte Carlo method, has proceeded on two fronts: data collection and algorithm development. In this paper we report on the status of the data libraries. The data collection is nearly complete with the addition of electron, photon, and atomic data libraries to the existing neutron, gamma ray, and charged particle libraries. The contents of these libraries are summarized.

Altitude Test Chamber Investigation of Performance of a 28-Inch Ram-Jet Engine 2: Effects of Gutter Width and Blocked Area on Operating Range and Combustion Efficiency

Description: Altitude-test-chamber investigation of effects of flame-holder blocked area and gutter width on performance of 28-inch diameter ram jet at simulated flight Mach number of 2.0 for altitudes from 40,000 to 55,000 feet was conducted at NACA Lewis laboratory. Ten flame holders investigated covered gutter widths from 1.00 to 2.50 inches and blocked areas from 40.5 to 62.0 percent of combustion-chamber area. Gutter width did not appreciably affect combustion efficiency.

Ammonia at Blodgett Forest, Sierra Nevada, USA

Description: Ammonia is a reactive trace gas that is emitted in large quantities by animal agriculture and other sources in California, which subsequently forms aerosol particulate matter, potentially affecting visibility, climate, and human health. Analysis of the effects of corrosion probe on riser 241-AN-102-WST-16 during seismic event

Description: This analysis supports the installation activity of the corrosion probe in Tank 241-AN-102. The probe is scheduled to be installed in Riser 241-AN-102-WST-16 (formerly known as Riser 15B). The purpose of this analysis is to evaluate the potential effect of the corrosion probe on the riser during a credible seismic event. Anomalous resistivity of high-Z plasma with hydrogen admixture

Description: Among microinstabilities that may affect the resistance of a Z>>1 plasma in fast Z pinches, are the ion acoustic and the lower hybrid instabilities. We discuss effects of hydrogen ions on these instabilities and find that, by properly adjusting the hydrogen concentration, one can considerably increase the threshold current density for the onset of the instability. Anti-Lambda Polarization in High Energy pp Collisions withPolarized Beams

Description: We study the polarization of the anti-Lambda particle in polarized high energy pp collisions at large transverse momenta. The anti-Lambda polarization is found to be sensitive to the polarization of the anti-strange sea of the nucleon.
