Analysis of a standard Pu solution by the control laboratories in 231 and 234-5 Buildings

Description: A solution of Pu was prepared for use in a re-investigation of the present 49 titration method. Three 500 microliter portions of the sample were dried and ignited to PuO{sub 2}. From the weight of the residue and the impurity analysis, the concentration, in g/l, of the solution was found to be 222.2, 221.5, and 222.5; average of 222.0. Description: The results of an analytical investigation of the theoretical air specific impulse performance and adiabatic combustion temperatures of several possible ram-jet fuels over a range of equivalence ratios, inlet-air temperatures, and combustion pressures, is presented herein. Anodic Etching Procedure for Uranium: Useful Lifetime of Baths Without Regeneration

Description: The useful lifetimes of the phosphoric-hydrochloric anodic etching solution and the nitric acid stripping solutions were studied. Groups of uranium wafers of surface areas approximately 0.033 sq ft were anodically etched and stripped. From the losses in weight observed, it was concluded that at least three square feet of uranium may be anodized per liter of phosphoric-hydrochloric acid solution without regeneration. Application of a Modified Debye-Huckel Theory to Fully Ionized Gases

Description: The equations of the Debye-Huckel theory, modified to include quantum statistics, are discussed. It is found that the nonlinear equations used by Cowan and Kirkwcod are not unique and that the nonlinear theory can be formulated in different ways to give different answers. Aspects of internal-flow-system design for helicopter propulsive units

Bodies of revolution having minimum drag at high supersonic airspeeds

Description: Approximate shapes of nonlifting bodies having minimum pressure foredrag at high supersonic airspeeds are calculated. With the aid of Newton's law of resistance, the investigation is carried out for various combinations of the conditions of given body length, base diameter, surface area, and volume.
