Purse

Description: Purse of gunmetal mesh, suitable for afternoon use. Rectangular frame, plain polished gunmetal / steel frame with ball/snap closure and matching chain of elongated links. Body of purse formed of gunmetal / steel mesh, with linked chain latticework along bottom edge, terminating in small spheres. Inside of frame is engraved "Bessie H. Brown" and "Dallas Texas 4205 Swiss Avenue" Measurements: 26 cm. from top of clasp to bottom of fringe; 19.5 cm at widest part of bag.

Hat

Description: Hat of ivory/ecru panne velvet, black fur, ivory lace, and a black plume. The crown is of low, crushed ivory or ecrue panne velvet, with a lower border of black fur. The wide brim had an inner wire framework covered with ivory lace, edged with the same black fur. Extending from lower edge of crown at side to off of the edge of the brim is a large black plume. Cotton petticoat

Description: Petticoat of white cotton. Full-length, with plain waistband. Side opening with two buttons, both now missing. Thin horizontal band of applied lace with "running square" design near knee-height. At bottom is an 8" deep ruffle of fabric with eyelet lace, laid over the hem of the dress, with a band of the "running square" lace at upper edge. Scalloped hand embroidery.

Shoes

Description: Pair of shoes of red silk satin. Designed with a rounded toe and three straps across vamp which lace with red silk cord. Toebox with floral embroidery in red, and with decorative twisted fabric band across top of toebox. Edges of upper and straps edged off-white leather(?) 2" high modified Louis heel, rounded at sides and back, flaring slightly to base. Mostly illegible stamp inside.

Hat

Description: Hat of velvet and golden weave cloth. The domed crown is covered in a woven golden cloth shot through with metallic threads. Around the base of the crown is a wide hatband of a similar fabric in the form of a dense ribbon, forming a large bow at front. Set in behind the bow is a semi-circular fan spray of fine white feathers. The wide, circular, slightly floppy brim is of black velvet. Linen afternoon dress

Description: Afternoon dress of ecru linen. One piece with waistline slightly higher than normal. "Magyar" type sleeves, Russian influence in off-center detailing, high square neck. Ankle length "plain, sensible corselet" skirt. Trimmed with soutache embroidery.
