T-shirt of white cotton, having short sleeves and a rounded neckline, which is printed with an artistic rendering of a portrait of Che Guevara, arranged as large main central portrait in black, surrounded by four smaller renditions in pale gray. Acquired by the donor in Mexico City in 1971 from a vendor in the Mexico City Metro. Ernesto "Che" Guevara (b. June 14, 1928 in Rosario, Argentina - d. La Higuera, Bolivia, October 9, 1967) commonly known as El Che or simply Che, was an Argentine Marxist revolutionary, physician, author, intellectual, guerrilla leader, diplomat, military theorist, and major figure of the Cuban Revolution.
Textile. Rectangular panel of handwoven cotton/wool, with fringed ends. Mexican weaving, in the Saltillo style, done in reds, blacks, blues, greens, and white. Inlay designs with central diamond shape formed of chevrons and diamonds, width-wise stripes of gradated colors, and bands with short trapezoidal gradated bars of color.
Caftan style midi dress of yellow cotton. Embroidered T-shaped yoke of bright pink cotton has V-shaped opening and corded standing collar with yellow running stitches matching the sleeve cuffs. Extending from the front and back bases of the yoke are embroidered applied turquoise square and bright pink diamond shaped trim. Center front 21" split is bordered with 3 1/2" applied color blocks in royal blue, turquoise, bright pink and orange, and is embellished with large zig zag of pink chain stitching across the color blocks and bordered in purple rickrack effect chain stitching. Tape along hem is embroidered "Josefa for Anna & Edmundo Villa".
Caftan style maxi dress of unbleached muslin trimmed in multicolored streamers of satin ribbon. Horizontal lines of satin ribbon across front of bodice release at sides to form streamers down the sides. Rounded neckline; full length triangular bell sleeves with hanging streamers of turquoise and gold satin ribbon. Center front zipper closure is bordered in turquoise ribbon with multicolored streamers extending from the base of the zipper. Bias tape along hem embroidered "Josefa for Anna Villa".
Dress of bright orange cotton with geometric inspired embroidered front yoke and sleeves trimmed in brass pailettes. Knee length; rounded neckline opens to V at center front. Wide bracelet length sleeves. Bias tape on hem embroidered "Josefa for Anna & Edmundo Villa".
Length of Handwoven Fabric. Two breadth garment handwoven in cotton on the backstrap loom. Natural brown cotton with white cotton stripes - warp faced weave. The 2 panels are joined with machine stitching and the ends have machine stitched hems. One panel is slightly longer (2 3/8") than the other.
Faja (belt) of turquoise and dark green cotton. Linear repeating pattern in green of birds and a human figure in the center, with three lines of green along the edges. Unfinished, loose threads at the ends. Handwoven on backstrap loom with warp face weave.
Faja (Belt) of red-orange, white, and black cotton. Handwoven on backstrap loom with warp face weave. Linear, geometric, repeating design of plants and human figures in red and black in the center, with primarily black and white band of repeating design along edges. Ends of faja unfinished/untied.
Head dress formed as a length of multi-colored (dark red, orange, pink, white, green, blue) braided yarn with fringed ends. Approx. 29" long x 1" wide.
