Hatlet

Description: Hat of pale pink fine straw. The low, rounded crown is of woven fine pale pink straw with gold edging. At front of hat are two "petal" shapes emerging from the upper part of the crown and extending forward and down at the front of the hat. The shapes are of the same woven straw, edged in pink satin. The hat has a veil of fine pink netting, now partly perished. The hat is unlined, with an inner hatband of pink grosgrain ribbon around inside base of the crown. Retailer's label sewn to inner hatband: "Volk".

Hatlet

Description: Hatlet of burgundy fabric covered with artificial flowers. The hatlet is formed as an oval of stiffened burgundy fabric intended to be worn across the top of the head. The hatlet is almost entirely covered with artificial flowers of velvets, silk, and other fabrics. The flowers are primarily in pinks/purples/reds, with green stems and leaves. The hat is lined in black satin and edged with an inner hatband of black grosgrain ribbon. A small stitched mark on the ribbon indicates the front of the hat. Designer's Label: "Lilly / Daché / Paris New York". Label is very large, extending across the full width of the inside of the hatlet, the word "Paris" partly obscured by the grosgrain ribbon.

Hatlet

Description: Hatlet of beaded velvet. The small, circular, slightly domed hatlet is of off-white velvet with printed scrolls and curves in greens, browns and blues. Over the surface of the hat are various beaded and sequined motifs and strings of beads. Across the back is a wide twisted green ribbon which crosses at back and has trailing ends. Lined in copper/reddish cloudy silk(?), and edged in green grosgrain ribbon. A small stitched mark on the ribbon indicates the front of the hat. At either side is attached a small plastic comb to secure hat to wearer's head. Designer's label sewn to inner green grosgrain ribbon: "Hattie Carnegie"

Hatlet

Description: Hatlet of stiffened black velvet embroidered floral/foliate appliques. Roughly triangular, the appliques have net openwork areas and beaded stamens for the blossoms, and are covered with black veiling. Inside the crown, there are two small brown plastic combs on right and left side to secure hat to wearer's head. Designer's label inside crown: "Bes-Ben / Made in Chicago". Gift of H.B. Curry, Jr., through his daughter Nancy C. Bavor.

Hatlet

Description: Hatlet of black plastic tubing. The low crown is made of a tight spiral of twisted black plastic tubing with four open areas near the edge. The front edge of the crown extends to form 4 points, each of which is surmounted by a "bow" of similar shiny black tubing tying together pairs of shiny black plastic ovals. The back edge of the crown extends to form two semi-circular lobes. Overlaying the crown, but beneath the "bows" is black netting veil, with small pieces of black tubing worked into some of the intersections at front of hat. The inside of the crown is lined with black mesh. Two plastic combs, one to each side, are inside crown of hat to secure it to wearer's head. Designer's label inside crown: "Bes-Ben / Made in Chicago" Gift of Mrs. Philip Rosenblum, through the Chicago Historical Society.

Headband

Description: Headband of brown satin and brown mink. The hat is formed on a base of brown satin covered stiffened wire which creates a curved openwork crown running across head of wearer. On the front part of the framework is overlaid a panel of brown mink. At back and on each side is a large brown satin bow. Label inside: "Marian Marcia / Exclusives" May be read as "Marian Warcia" also.

Description: Headband of navy blue net. The headband is formed as a wide, long rectangle of navy blue mesh which is worn across head, on forehead and low at back, tied with dark navy blue velvet ribbon ties. No labels.

Headpiece

Description: Headpiece of off-white satin. Designed as an open oval ring, the headpiece is made of a 1 inch wide stuffed headring overlaid with a veil of black net with embroidered floral forms. The veil extends down at front, and is gathered at sides. Retailer's label: "Neiman-Marcus"

Headpiece

Description: Headpiece, possibly for a wedding. The headpiece is formed as a "butterfly" shaped wired under-structure covered with white velvet, curved to fit the wearer across the top of the head from ear to ear. The "wings" of the butterfly are covered with a wide white mesh, and on each side is a large artificial flower of white taffeta and white velvet, with green velvet leaves with rhinestones. Some remains of beige veiling. No labels or tags.

Little Girl's Dress

Description: Little girl's dress of alternating pink linen and sheer organdy fabric in scallop design. Round neckline; sleeveless. Bodice has four round plastic buttons down center back. Skirt is gathered at natural waist; piping detail in pink linen at front waist seam. Pink linen sash attaches at side seams and ties in back. Fully lined in sheer organdy fabric.
