Evening Gown

Description: Evening gown of silk in light purple floral print against a forest green background. Printed chiffon evening gown in olive greens, brown and lavender. Deep decollete front and back. Fabric looped up on left side for irregular silhouette. Right shoulder covered with gathered chiffon which hangs down to form a long train. Right side zipper. Neckline trim of dark green velvet with bronze braid and sequins. Lined in pink organza and trimmed at hem with matching metallic bronze braid and sequins.

Fission

Description: Painting of black and white contrasted polka-dots that appear to vibrate and form three-dimensional depression at the center of the piece. In this and other early works, Riley "wanted the space between the picture plane and the spectator to be active." She later explored color contrast.

Description: Hat of fine red baku straw. Hat resembles a bowler or derby style. Shallow 2" crown, with slightly rounded top. Has 1 1/2" wide slightly squared flat brim. 3/8" wide hat band of self ties in a small bow. Unlined with red grosgrain ribbon inner headband.

Hat

Description: Hat of light brown felt and net. Styled as a boater or "Pamela hat", the low, domed crown is of stiffened light brown net, overlaid with light brown felt circles of various sizes, and irregular band around the lower edge. At back is a bow, secured under a strap of the felt, made of lighter brown/beige satin tube ribbon. The brim is of the same felt, curling up at outer edge, banded at outer edge in the same satin tube ribbon. The hat is unlined, with inner light brown grosgrain ribbon hatband. Designer's(?) label inside: "Anniversaire / Original / by New Era" Additional tag: "ADJ / M.S.C."

Hat

Description: Hat of woven orange balibuntl straw. Designed as a "mod" interpretation of a cloche, to be worn high on the head. The high, slightly domed crown flares out slightly at bottom to form the brim. The brim is split, with front section sloping downwards, and the back section upturned. Around the base of the crown is a wide navy blue plastic ribbon. Crown is lined in orange silk(?), and has an orange grosgrain inner hatband. Designer's label inside: "Galanos".

Description: Painting of red, green yellow, blue, white and black palette. Red opened refrigerator with various content such as a two-tone green can of lemonade in the lower left corner and a brown hammer in the top left. A white miniature refrigerator is also depicted.

Jumper

Description: Jumper of chocolate brown jersey wool. Below knee length, with rounded neckline. Sleeveless, with squared armholes which have plackets over shoulders which extend down front to waistline and form opening for pockets. Six belt loops of same fabric. Center back hidden zipper with hook & eye. Lined in dark gray synthetic fabric. Designer's label at back right shoulder: "Pierre Cardin / Paris New York" Retailer's label at back left shoulder: "Maisonnette / Neiman-Marcus" Union label and size tag attached to back seam. With belt of tan patent leather with brass buckle; 1-1/2" wide. Stamped: "Pierre Cardin / 10 / Genuine / Patent Leather / 715"

Raincoat

Description: ( At left) Raincoat of black vinyl. The modified A-line coat is of short length, extending to just at or below the knee, and has long sleeves. Center-front opening is secured with 3 silver/chrome clip closures, one at the rounded neckline and two at waist. There is one patch pocket at the right hip. The coat is fully lined in synthetic with vertical stripes of pink, green, blue, violet, and red on a black ground. Manufacturer's label inside at center back just below neckline: "La Flaque / de Paris". At right inside side-seam is a Union Label.

Skirt Suit

Description: Skirt suit of gold silk with slub yarns. A) Short jacket. Collarless, with rounded neckline. Single breasted with closure of three large buttons and bound buttonholes. Two vertical, single-welt chest pockets. Three-quarter length, two-piece sleeves. Lined in matching gold silk. Designer's label at inside right seam near opening: "Christian Dior-New York Inc." Retailer's label at center back neckline: "Neiman-Marcus" B) Skirt, knee-length and slightly A-lined. 1" waistband and two front vertical welt side pockets. Four back darts, and center back zipper with hook & eye on waistband. Lined in beige organdy.

Aviator's Cap Hat

Description: Hat in the form of a black leather Aviator's Cap. The domed ovoid crown is made in six triangular sections, and has straps which extend down and buckle under the chin with two oval gilt metal links. The cap is lined with black satin, and has an inner black grosgrain ribbon hatband. Designer's label: "Adolfo / New York Paris" Retailer's Label: "Amen Wardy / El Paso Texas"

Breton Hat

Description: Breton hat of dark, almost navy blue felt. The high, cylindrical crown is slightly domed at top, and is encircled by the wide brim, which is upturned almost to vertical, forming a "wall" around the crown. The hat is unlined, with a dark blue inner grosgrain ribbon hatband, and with a small attached comb to help secure hat to wearer's head. Designer's label: "Balenciaga / 10, Avenue George V. Paris"

Calotte

Description: Calotte of beaded black satin. Evening hat in the form of a calotte (also spelled "calot"). The low, domed crown is made of segments of black satin over a core of woven straw. The surface is embellished with black plastic sequins and beads of various sizes. At top of crown is small squashed spheroid finial covered with a pattern of cylindrical and circular faceted black plastic beads. Inside lower edge of crown is black grosgrain ribbon band. Sewn behind band are three elastic loops to help secure hat to head of wearer. No labels.

Description: Coat of zebra hide. Street-length, with long sleeves. Two outer pockets with decorative flaps. Center front opening with three large circular leather-covered buttons. Rounded lapel collar. Edges, buttonholes, pockets, etc. trimmed with black/brown leather. Upper part of garment lined in green silk with interior tie and loop closure; lower part lined in black. Inner slit pocket on right side seam of lining with embroidered label "Maxine Blau". Inner green silk belt with loop. Designer's label at inside back neckline: "Esther Dorothy / Furs for the Woman by a Woman / New York Boston"

Cocktail Dress

Description: Cocktail dress of sheer black silk chiffon and lace over tan silk lining. Sleeveless; round neckline. Unlined sheer chiffon above bust. Knee-length; waist seam. Skirt has 5 tiers of chiffon each edged with 2" black lace. Tiers start at center front, wrap around body and attach again at left near side seam. Top tier shows lace on left attaching to waist seam. Center back zipper covered by snap closures. Bodice has 5 small black covered buttons at center back. Interior has a built-in corset with boning. Designer's label inside at side seam: "Made in France / Automne-Hiver 1964 / Christian Dior / Paris"; stamped on label: "125104"

Day Dress

Description: Day dress of blue and white linen blend(?). Semi-fitted empire bodice with narrow standing collar and short sleeves. Center back zipper closure from neck to hip line with hook&eye at neck. Contrasting white waistband giving the impression of a wide belt. Four blue insets simulate belt loops. Center front lapped detail on "belt" with two bound buttonholes and nonfunctional, round, blue shank buttons. Above-the-knee flared skirt with side seam pockets low on hips. Piece lined in blue and white cotton. Designer's label stitched off-center back, below collar: "Marie McCarthy / for / Larry Aldrich" Retailer's label at bottom left side seam of dress: "Bloomingdale's / Green Room" Union label and size tags on center back inside seam.

Description: Day dress of bright yellow linen. Sleeveless with jewel neckline; contrasting, darker yellow top-stitching. Empire waist. Two paddle shaped patch pockets at sides with 1-1/4" non-functional buttons covered in white vinyl set in "handle" of each "paddle". Center back invisible zipper with hook & eye. Lined in bright yellow satin synthetic, with narrow band of pale yellow lace along selvage edge of fabric.
