Whereabouts of Clouds

Description: The horizontally oriented artwork depicts a series of ribbon like forms moving from the foreground and lower edge of the work into the distance and the top edge of the work. The sky is a light pink color and the ribbon forms gradate from dark to light blue-greens.

Orson

Description: The painting, mostly monochromatic, depicts a portrait of Orson Welles in the top two-thirds of the canvas. Along the bottom edge, also in monochromatic tones, are men depicted in combat with automatic weapons. At the right edge, the face of a superhero is depicted in pink, blue, red and yellow. Running vertically in the left hand portion of the canvas is a depiction of lined notebook paper with a small pencil sketch of a landing craft or space ship.

Tares and Wheat

Description: The vertically oriented painting depicts pieces of several contemporary images, a small portion of Life magazine logo, woman's face, cigarette package, tire, rocket, photograph, woman in a swimsuit and a car. The way in which the images are painted they appear to be torn from a magazine and are arranged in a collage fashion.

Painted Sports Magazine

Description: This painting depicts a 1976 Sports Illustrated magazine cover featuring Steve Spurrier, a San Francisco 49ers football player. The painting depicts the cover as though the corner has been torn away and some extraneous expressionistic paint marks overlay the realistic portrayal of the football player.

Description: This long vertical work consists of a tie dyed or shibori method of screen printing. The imagery in the top portion of the work is a large red circle floating on an orange colored ground. The bottom portion of the work is a purple with many dark streaks running horizontally and a large light purple wave shape moves from the bottom edge of the work towards the top.

Blue Tide

Description: This queen sized bedspread, screen printed on cotton velvet, was created while Spear studied at Cranbrook Art Academy in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. The bedspread gradates from purples to blues with long wave shapes in a pale yellow gold color.

Description: Acrylic paint on paper depicting two large squares, one turned forty-five degrees and both filled with small lines, dots, and dashes creating many more small grids. Light blues and purples dominate.

Description: The vertical oriented room divider depicts a landscape type of scene with moon and sun type shapes floating through and among wave like shapes. The colors are in a range from warm orange and pale yellow to blue greens.

Description: The artwork consists of four panels each turned on point. A grid ladder pattern turned in various directions appears in each panel. The colors are warm reddish browns and light blues. Other rectangular and triangular outlined shapes appear scattered across the panels.

Elvis / Blue Boy Still Life

Description: This large, mostly black and white painting, depicts a scene of a bar fight from one of Elvis Presley's movies and a reproduction of the famous painting, Blue Boy, by Thomas Gainsborough is superimposed. In front of the painting is a wooden table holding an apple, a pear and a pitcher, not unlike a Paul Cezanne still life.

Storm, NYC Rooftop

Description: Long multi-colored pieces are arranged on a rooftop in an urban setting. The pieces are arranged both in organic lines as well as straight lines filling the rooftop area. Some pieces partially move above the base and some appear suspended in space.

Description: The horizontally oriented work of art consists of three vertical panels. Each panel depicts space through a series of gradated horizontally running lines and stripes. Moving from the foreground to the background are white ribbon shapes.

Canyon No. 2

Description: The work depicts space in a canyon like fashion. Irregular shapes run through the work and from the edges are dropped perpendicularly gradated lines that create form and space. The illusion of space is also created by the gradations from white to pink to purple.
