- Failure analysis of an elbow tube fitting
- This article discusses elbow tube fitting. Abstract: Safe operation of machinery depends strongly on the design of the system and the employement of proper components and materials. Unique to fluid powered systems are the proper selection of hydraulic lines, fittings, and control valves. This paper describes the cause of fracture in an elbow tube fittings due to deficiencies in the dimensional design and materials selection. The investigation included metallography, fractography, hardness testing and metrology. The results showed that the material was low carbon steel subjected to cold forming and normalized annealing processes during tube production. There were dimensional variations in the tube and the material strength was low.

Those involved see the curriculum for this new program as a new model of engineering education that parallels the innovations of UNTs current Learning to Learn (L2L) project-oriented concept course with the addition of innovative approaches for mechanical engineering and emphasis on energy engineering education.

- In this article, the pressure-sensitivity of CNT filled cement mortar composites with different concentrations of MWNT and different surfactants is investigated under repeated loading and impulsive loading, respectively. Experimental results indicate that the response of the electrical resistance of composites with NaDDBS to external force is more stable and sensitive than that of composites with SDS. Therefore, NaDDBS has higher efficiency than SDS for the dispersion of MWNT in cement mortar, and it is an effective surfactant for fabricating MWNT filled cement mortar composites with superior pressure-sensitivity.

- This article describes a study to improve the electrical and thermal conductivity of the polylactic acid/wood flour/thermoplastic polyurethane composites by Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM). The results showed that, when the addition amount of nano-graphite reached 25 pbw, the volume resistivity of the composites decreased to 10⁸ Ω·m, which was a significant reduction, indicating that the conductive network was already formed. It also had good thermal conductivity, mechanical properties, and thermal stability.
- Mechanical property enhancement of self-bonded natural fiber material via controlling cell wall plasticity and structure
- This article explores self-bonded natural fiber material (SNFM) as a promising alternative for plastic and wood owing to its abundant raw material resources and low environmental impact. In this study, a high-performance SNFM was developed by the comprehensive treatments for the plasticity and structure of fiber cell walls. The self-bonded mechanism for natural fiber materials was also discussed. The SNFM products showed excellent mechanical performance, which was superior to that of natural wood and plastic.

- Preparation and Characterization of 3D Printed PLA-Based Conductive Composites Using Carbonaceous Fillers by Masterbatch Melting Method
- This article highlights a study aimed at improving the conductivity of polylactic acid (PLA)-based composites by incorporating carbonaceous fillers. The composites with the addition of graphene nanoplatelets (rGO) or multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were fabricated by the masterbatch melting method in order to improve the dispersion of the two kinds of nano-fillers. The results showed that, with the addition of 9 wt % rGO, the volume electrical resistivity of the composite reached the minimum electrical resistance of 10³ Ω·m, at which point the conductive network in the composites was completely formed.
- Evaluation of Uniformity of Bamboo Bundle Veneer and Bamboo Bundle Laminated Veneer Lumber (BLVL)
- In this article the density uniformity and mechanical properties of bamboo bundle veneers were systematically evaluated by the combination of light transmittance and mechanical stiffness. It was found that the number of broomings, dippings, and high-temperature heat treatments had different effects on the bamboo bundle veneers. On this basis, the uniformity of the density and mechanical properties of the bamboo scrimber (BS) that underwent hybrid paving, and the bamboo bundle laminated veneer lumber (BLVL), were analyzed.
