The envelope was received on August 16, 1853 according to the written note at the bottom left corner. Part of a red seal is still on the back.

In a previous letter from his wife, Loriette asked him how he got the three hundred dollars that he sent to Mr. Baker. Redway informs Loriette that he received the money as pay for the months of January and February 1865. Redway explains that he has only received pay for those two months. Description: A letter from Hamilton K. Redway in Washington D.C. to his wife, Loriette Redway, on January 5, 1866. The letter is regarding Hamilton Redway's feelings toward his wife. Redway expresses his disappointment in his wife's suspicion of him, and attests his affection for her and his family. Redway mentions that he will soon be in Little Rock, Arkansas.
