Video footage from The Black Academy of Arts and Letters recorded during the 11th annual Kwanzaa concert in 2004. The video begins mid-performance with dancers, choir, and orchestra playing in a small room with an audience seated listening. The members of the groups are all young people and children dressed in black and white formal attire and costumes. At the conclusion of the concert, Curtis King makes a speech thanking staff, participants, and parents.
[1914 & Other Poems]
Photographs of "1914 & Other Poems" by Rupert Brooke, held by UNT Special Collections. The first image, is of the inside of the book with a faint illustration of a man's profile, the second image the see-through brown piece of paper is turned over to cover the illustration but to reveal the title of the book. Although Rupert Brooke (1887-1915) died before ever seeing battle, he was renowned for his war sonnets. W.B. Yeats noted that Brooke was “handsomest young man of England,” a fact that may account for some of his fame. Educated at Cambridge, he became a thespian, scholar, and soldier. Brooke, commissioned in the Royal Navy, never got to see battle. He died in 1915 at sea from sepsis. An eerie photograph portrait of the author’s profile, dated 1913, appears opposite the title page in this edition. Following the title page with publisher information and the typical copyright statement, we encounter a brief biographical note listing Brooke’s education and war time experience. His five war sonnets, titled “1914,” became notable for their romantic and patriotic view of the war. As a young man, Brooke wrote poems and published in anthologies and periodicals; his first volume of poetry, simply titled Poems, appeared in 1911 and (according to a note printed in this edition of 1914 and Other Poems) was reprinted in 1913 and twice in 1915. The contents of this volume are separated into sections beginning with the war sonnets titled “1914” followed by “The South Seas” and finally “Other Poems.” The last page of the book lists where the book was printed and contains a small slip that is taped to the back page, which was to be affixed to the spine of the book. [The 1962 Order of Lafayette Freedom Award Dinner]
This film footage, presented by LifeLine, shows the activities of the Order of Lafayette Freedom Award Dinner held December 3, 1962, at the Americana Hotel in New York, NY to honor distinguished leadership in combating Communism. Representatives from the New York County American Legion, National Legion of Greek-American War Veterans, Polish-American Patriotic Society, The Society of American Wars, and the Catholic War Veterans were present. Also present were Katharine St. George, Rear Admiral John J. Bergen, U.S. Senator John L. McClellan, and broadcaster Fulton Lewis, Jr. President General of the Order of Lafayette, Hamilton Fish, presided over the ceremony. Presenters and award recipients included Princess Diana Eristavi, Anna Chennault (widow of the Flying Tigers Commander Claire L. Chennault), James H.R. Cromwell, former Governor of New Jersey Charles Edison, Captain Eddie Rickenbacker, Major General Hugh J. Casey, Ambassador Spruille Braden, Colonel Alvin M. Owsley (00:7:37-00:8:31), General Robert E. Condon, and M.L. Hunt.

Adults who color show their creativity
A newspaper clipping featuring an article on coloring and adults who color as a small muscle control exercise or just for fun pastime. Tracy Moran, a crayola spokeswoman said, "Coloring isn't just for kids anymore." Dr. William McCarter, art professor at the University of North Texas says, "the use of crayons as an adult medium isn't new." The number of adults using crayons is part of a trend on being involved in some form of self-expression.
