The Effect of Individual Guidance on Maladjusted Children with Respect to Personality Development and Achievement in Reading

Description: The purpose of the study is to discover the maladjusted children in one first-grade classroom; to diagnose the behavior problems of the pupils by means of the case study procedure; to present methods of remedial treatment to eliminate the maladjustment; to set up a guidance program that will help individual maladjusted children adjust themselves; to provide information that will he useful to teachers in dealing with maladjusted children.

The Effect of Interruptions on the Listening Comprehension of Fourth Grade Children

The Effect of Journalism on Modern American Writing

Description: This paper is an analysis of the relationship between journalism and formal literary usage in America. It is the purpose of this study to define and illustrate characteristics of modern journalese and to make a comparison of standards of correct usage advocated by recent textbooks in English composition and journalism. Particular attention will be given to diction, structure and length of sentences, capitalization, abbreviation, and punctuation. The conclusion will be a brief evaluation of modern journalism, a succinct resume of its impact on modern language and literature, and a simple prediction of future tendencies in journalistic and literary language. And to give a better perspective to the analysis of journalism and American English, the paper begins with a description of the American linguistic heritage.

The Effect of Relationship Films on the Attitudes of Homemaking Girls

Description: Films have been used with varying degrees of success to influence the attitudes of pupils of different ages and interests. Little has been done, however, to measure the attitudes of girls in high school homemaking classes. It is the purpose of this study to use films as an integral part of a group relationships unit and to determine what attitude changes, if any, are directly attributable to film content.

Ninety of the fourth-grade pupils were enrolled in the Denison Elementary Schools, Denison, Texas, and thirty of the fourth-grade pupils were enrolled in an independent school, one mile outside the Denison city limits.

Effectiveness of the Problem-Solving Method in Developing Thinking Ability in Homemaking Students

Description: This study attempts to compare the thinking abilities of homemaking girls with the thinking abilities of girls not taking homemaking. By emphasizing the problem-solving method in the teaching of an experimental unit, it proposes to determine whether homemaking students show greater gains in thinking ability at the end of the school year than non-homemaking students. The investigator proposes to find out if the student taught by techniques of problem-solving forms thinking habits superior to habits formed by those students who have not been taught by this method as extensively as homemaking students.

Effectiveness of the Undergraduate Curriculum in Teacher Education in Developing Desired Teaching Competencies

Description: The purpose of this study is to identify and evaluate the competencies that a person who desires to teach should possess in order to be an effective classroom teacher. Identification of these competencies will be made from evidence obtained through a consensus of student's opinions, these opinions to be solicited from students currently enrolled in courses required for a major in elementary education, and from the consensus of faculty members who ware currently teaching these courses.
