A Study of the Attitudes of Parents, Teachers and Principals Toward Parental Involvement in School Activities

Description: The problem with which this investigation was concerned was that of surveying the attitudes of parents, teachers, and principals toward parental involvement in school activities. The study had a threefold purpose. The first was to determine the attitudes of parents toward involvement in school activities. The second was to determine the attitudes of teachers and principals toward parental involvement in schools. The third was to identify attitudes of parents, teachers, and principals toward various methods of involvement.

A Study of the Employment of Texas Industrial Arts Graduates

Description: The problem with which this study was concerned was to identify employment status of the 1964-1971 industrial arts majors who graduated from the colleges and universities in Texas. Specifically this study analyzed the status of the following industrial arts graduates: those with and without teaching certificates, those in educational employment, those in industrial employment, those who had changed their employment from education to industrial or self-employment and vice versa, and those who returned to campus for further studies.

The Development and Validation of an Inventory of Academic Requirements for Criminal Justice Education

Description: The purpose of this study was to develop a concept of higher education which would be responsive to the needs of criminal justice. The study sought first to identify from both the popular and professional literature the principal roles of the three main component areas of criminal justice (police, courts, and corrections). Second, the study sought to identify those fundamental areas of knowledge which would support the common criminal justice roles; and, finally, the study sought to formulate the essential items of knowledge thus developed into an inventory of academic requirements for criminal justice education and to validate that inventory by subjecting it to the scrutiny of a panel of experts for their evaluation.

A Comparison of Selected Attitudes and Values of the Adolescent Society in 1957 and 1972

Description: The purpose of this paper was to investigate the structure and process of selected social influences during adolescence in one large high school. It was hypothesized that adolescents would be more oriented to peers and activities outside school and less oriented to academics, athletics, and other school-related activities. The study sought to answer questions about the social climate of the adolescent in a large high school and to analyze the implications of these findings for administrators and others who are interested in the optimum adjustment of teenagers.

A Comparative Analysis of Selected Characteristics of Intellectually Superior Male Students who Persist and Those who do not Persist in an Advanced Placement Program

Description: This study made a comparative analysis of certain selected characteristics of a group of academically able male youth who persisted and those who did not persist in a five-year academic sequence in mathematics and science. Two major questions were dealt with in this study: 1. Can the persisting youth as a group be distinguished from those youth who did not persist in this academic sequence on the basis of their functioning in certain nonintellective areas? 2. Are the performances of the persisting youth on certain dimensions elevated in the same directions as are the performances of mature creatives who have been intensively studied on the same dimensions?

A Comparative Evaluation of the Effectiveness of Group Guidance and Individual Counseling with Freshmen

Description: The primary objective was to investigate the effectiveness of short-term group guidance and short-term individual counseling with freshman college students. The design utilizes the method and procedure of comparing similar groups of students who received group guidance, students who received individual counseling, and students who received no counseling or guidance. A comparison of the ratio between self-ratings and objectively evaluated test scores before and after the study served as the basis for determining the effectiveness of the experimental variables.
