- This study is concerned with the problem of determining the competencies which inservice kindergarten teachers and kindergarten-teacher trainers consider most important for teaching kindergarten. There are four purposes of the study: to identify specific competencies needed to teach kindergarten, to determine the teacher competencies considered most important by kindergarten teachers, to determine teacher competencies considered most important by teacher trainers, and to compare the rankings of teacher competencies by kindergarten teachers and kindergarten-teacher trainers.

- A Comparison of Selected Attitudes and Values of the Adolescent Society in 1957 and 1972
- The purpose of this paper was to investigate the structure and process of selected social influences during adolescence in one large high school. It was hypothesized that adolescents would be more oriented to peers and activities outside school and less oriented to academics, athletics, and other school-related activities. The study sought to answer questions about the social climate of the adolescent in a large high school and to analyze the implications of these findings for administrators and others who are interested in the optimum adjustment of teenagers.

- A Conceptual Validation Study of the Rorschach Indicators of Creativity
- The major theoretical position of this study was that the cognitive functioning of the creative individual, as compared with the non-creative normal, is characterized by the greater availability of mature operations as these operations are defined by the Rorschach. It was assumed that the "creative individual" is free to use his imaginal processes to enrich his perception of the world. This study recognized that the perception of good Gestalten of the world is a function of the perceiver, his needs, defense mechanisms, integration, and the characteristics of the stimulus-field. When the stimulus is ambiguous, as it is in the Rorschach, the perceiver has to draw on his own resources more heavily than if the stimulus was structured.

- Projective Use of Human-Figure Drawings
- The first aspect of the problem of this study is to investigate a number of drawing characteristics, the interpretation of which is frequently associated with dynamics of the maladjusted personality. This investigation is primarily concerned with validity as it occurs in a significant appearance of these characteristics in the drawings of maladjustedd individuals as compared with an assumed significantly lesser appearance in the drawings of relatively well-adjusted individuals. The second aspect of the problem is concerned with distinguishing those characteristics which show the greatest significance of occurrence from those of no significant occurrence in the maladjusted group. The former can be, thus, considered as possibly valid and important for further testing.

- Test Anxiety and Performance on the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children
- Although the significance of anxiety has long been recognized and explored within the framework of psychoanalysis, it was not until after World War II that it began to influence research in psychology. The manipulation of anxiety as a research variable has taken place both within and without the framework of psychoanalytic theory. The primary purpose of the present study was to determine the relationship between test anxiety, as determined by scores on the TASC, and performance on the Wechsler Intelliaence Scale for Children. TASC scores were compared to Verbal Scale, Performance Scale, Full Scale, and individual subtest scores on the WISC.

- The Status of Art Education in the Secondary Schools of Oklahoma
- The problem of this study was to survey the status of art in the secondary schools of Oklahoma. Art educators today are faced with a lack of uniformity in the teaching of art. There is an increasing need for a recognized art program and a placing of renewed emphasis on the teaching of art. Clear and comprehensive attitudes and ideas toward art in the Oklahoma public schools would tend to ease these difficulties and enrich teaching. There has been a great deal of critical thinking, but this has failed to produce the answers necessary to formulate a basis on which to build a good art program. This study was an attempt to survey the individual schools to determine the present status of art in the secondary schools of Oklahoma.
- The Effects of a Parent Program Focused Upon Enhancing Social-Emotional Development of Young Children Through Parent Instruction in Affective-Interpersonal Facilitation
- Twenty-seven parents with young children were randomly assigned to an experimental group which underwent an affective skill-building program, or one of two control groups. Pre and postassessments measured levels of communication, discrimination, and child vocalization for each parent. Multilinear regression analysis indicated that final communication skills among the three groups were significantly different. Final communication skills of the experimental group were significantly greater than those of the Hawthorne control group. Final discrimination skills for the three groups showed a trend toward being significantly different. Levels of child vocalization did not show significant changes. The experimental program was successful in improving accurate parent-child communication in the affective realm.
- Practices, Procedures, and Techniques in Auditorium Work at the Elementary Level, with Special Emphasis on the Elementary Schools of Dallas, Texas
- The purpose of this study was threefold: (1) to write a narrative account of the meaning, objectives, and functions of -auditorium work in public schools and to note the importance of providing for pupil participation in auditorium classes, and recommended practices in planning for and presenting programs in this phase of the educational situation; (2) to develop in detail the practices, procedures, and techniques contained in printed and mimeographed materials distributed by the Board of Education to auditorium teachers to serve as guides in conducting auditorium work in the elementary schools of Dallas, Texas; and (3) to evaluate these instructional materials in the light of modern practices, procedures, and techniques advocated by authorities in the field of auditorium work. As an outgrowth of these three phases of the study, it was believed that certain conclusions might be evident as to the efficacy of the auditorium work in the elementary schools of Dallas in so far as it could be determined by a careful examination of materials prepared for the use of auditorium teachers in conducting their classes. It was believed, also, that it might be possible to make recommendations for the improvement of auditorium work in the elementary schools of Dallas in the light of the instructional materials now used by auditorium teachers as compared to modern conceptions of auditorium advanced by authorities in the field.
