An Evaluation of Recommended Programs for Fifth Grade Social Studies

Description: The purpose of this study is: (1) to determine a criteria for evaluating proposed social studies programs; (2) to review fifth grade bulletins in social studies from five widely separated school systems in the United States, to make an analysis of their aims, methods, and materials, and to determine whether they meet accepted professional standards; (3) to make suggestions for improving the fifth grade social studies as a result of this analysis.

A Descriptive Evaluation of the Reading Experiences of Certain Children

Description: The purpose of this study is to discover through the use of the descriptive evaluation technique information about children's reading which may be of value as suggestions for classroom teachers who teach reading in the intermediate level. It is hoped that through the use of this technique the relation of the reading level of the individual children in a fourth and fifth grade group to the reading level of the material the children would read if left to their own choice in its selection may be determined.

Description: My purpose is to sketch briefly the diplomatic background of the existing relations between France and Germany from 1871 to 1939. I have told the story chronologically, because I believe that we must follow events as they unfold themselves if we are to understand why statesmen made their decisions. I have attempted to mass all the important facts that I could find on Franco-German Diplomatic Relations from 1871 to 1939 without self-interests or prejudices to either of the two nations. My intentions were to seek a general knowledge of the drift of Franco-German Diplomatic affairs during this period of seventy years.

The Importance and Use of the Visual Aid in the Rural High School

Description: This study is an attempt to show by analysis the extent to which visual aid is a contributing agency in progressive education, with particular reference to the rural high school. The study will include a resume of the development of visual aid in education; a statement of objectives which guide the use of such aids in the classroom; generalizations as to the importance of visual aid as determined by its many contributions and services rendered in school progress; a review of the criticisms and limitations that have been proposed by contemporary directors and students of research; and finally a summary and conclusion regarding the value of visual instruction.
