Relationship between Aptitudes and Major Fields of Study

Description: As new measures of aptitude are devised, their implications to education are a fertile source for research. All facets of aptitudes as they relate to education are explored. This study is concerned with such exploration in that it investigates the relationships between aptitudes, as measured by the General Aptitude Test Battery and selected major fields of study at North Texas State College, Denton, Texas. The major fields of study selected for this research are Accounting, Business Education, Elementary Education, Industrial Arts and Marketing.

An Analytical and Descriptive Technique for Rating Student Teachers

Description: The problem of this study was to develop an analytical and descriptive technique for rating the performances of student teachers. In order to arrive at a solution to this problem, the following sub-problems were to be solved; namely, 1. To develop and validate a set of criteria for describing and rating the performances of student teachers; 2. To develop and validate a descriptive rating scale utilizing those criteria; 3. To develop a technique for using this descriptive rating scale; 4. To establish reliability of the instrument and to demonstrate the ability of the instrument to perform its intended functions.

An Evaluative Study of Physical Education Activity Programs for Boys in Selected Junior High Schools of Texas

Description: The problem undertaken in this study was to evaluate the activity phase of boys' physical education programs in selected junior high schools of Texas. As a result of visitation and observation in a number of public junior high schools in the capacity of supervising teacher for physical education majors, it appears that many physical education programs were little more than loosely supervised play periods. Apparently there was room for improvement of these programs but a method for making judgments and recommendations required some type of measuring device. However, an examination of several existing measuring techniques failed to reveal any one devoted to the junior high school level or one concerned primarily with the activity program. As a means of improving existing programs, it was concluded that some new form of evaluation must be designed.

A Study of Certain Variabiles and their Implication in the Vocational Rehabilitation Training of Veteran Trainees

Description: When one group of disabled individuals finishes their vocational rehabilitation training programs and another group, almost as large in number, fails to complete their courses one wonders whether there are significant differences in the two groups. The problem in this study is to determine if the two groups differ significantly in certain identifiable characteristics. The identifiable characteristics are some important objective variables that are utilized in the vocational rehabilitation training of disabled veterans.

Measures of Local Fiscal Ability to Supoort Public Schools

Description: The primary purposes of this study are fourfold, namely: (1) to summarize the writings of specialists in school finance and public finance which are judged to have significance concerning the nature, source, control, and measurement of local fiscal ability; (2) to develop an analytical evaluation of the "bases" of the proposed measures; (3) to develop a criterion of the relative taxpaying ability of Arkansas counties in terms of the actual valuation of real property; and (4) to determine the significance of the association among the three measures and the relative significance of the degree of relationship of each measure to the criterion.

Effectiveness of the Undergraduate Curriculum in Teacher Education in Developing Desired Teaching Competencies

An In-Service Educational Program for Beginning Teachers of Spanish in the Elementary Grades

Description: The problem of the study was to determine the effectiveness of an in-service education program as a means of providing qualified foreign language teachers for elementary schools. Specifically, the problem was concerned with a statistical comparison of the achievement of two groups of pupils. One group was composed of fourth-grade pupils who were taught Spanish by teachers who had had a maximum of three college hours in Spanish and who had participated in an in-service education program. The other group was composed of fourth-grade pupils whose teachers had had a minimum of twelve college hours in Spanish but had not participated in an in-service education program.
