A Stylistic Analysis of Tre Sonetti del Petrarca by Ildebrando Pizzetti

Description: The purpose of this study is to examine the songs Tre Sonetti del Petrarca by Ildebrando Pizzetti. Effort is made to provide the performer with musical and poetic analyses to aid him in the preparation and interpretation of the songs. A consideration of the development of Italian solo song from 1822 to 1950 and brief biographical sketches of both the composer and the author of the text are included as background material. It is assumed that a detailed examination of the music and poetry will lead to a more meaningful expression in performance.

Differences in Performance Between Minimally Brain-Injured and Normal Children as Measured by the "Birch-Belmont Auditory-Visual Integration Test"

Description: The problem with which this study was concerned involved the identification of minimally brain-injured children. The performance on the "Birch-Belmont Auditory-Visual Integration Test" by twenty-five minimally brain-injured students was compared to the performance of twenty-five non-brain-injured children. It was found that when ages and I.Q. scores were not significantly different, and when sexes were approximately proportionate, the M.B.I. children scored significantly lower than did the non-brain-injured children. While it was indicated that the minimally brain-injured children perform less adequately on auditory-visual integration, no comparison of intrasensory and intersensory functioning was made. It was suggested that the test not be employed for sole determination of minimal brain injury, but that it may be used as a screening device quite appropriately.

The Urbanization Variable as It Affects Job Satisfaction

Description: The purpose of this study is to assess the relationship between job satisfaction and the level of city urbanization. Significant job satisfaction differences between employees in highly urban and in moderately urban cities are expected on the basis of past research. It is hypothesized that employees in moderately urban cities will have higher satisfaction scores than employees in highly urban cities. An affirmative finding would enhance the value of the relationships described in past research, and it would imply a basis for generalization of findings along a rural-urban continuum.

The Family Characteristics of the Aged White, Negro, and Spanish American

Description: The purpose of this study is a descriptive one concerning some facets of the family setting with emphasis directed to several general questions. What is the level of family income of the aged? Finally, how do answers to these questions vary with respect to the three basic social traits of race, age, and sex?

A Study of the Relationship Between Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale Scores and Koppitz's Human Figure Drawing Test Scores for Mentally Retarded Adults

Description: The present study explored the possibility of applying Koppitz's developmental scoring techniques of mental maturity to retarded adults. The following hypotheses were tested: 1) that there is a significant correlation between the Koppitz HFD Test scores and the WAIS Full Scale scores; 2) that the correlation between the Koppitz HFD Test scores and the WAIS Performance Scale scores is also significant. Statistical computations did confirm the latter hypothesis but not the former one.

The Public Career of Don Ramón Corral

Description: Ramón Corral, Vice-President of Mexico from 1904 to 1911, was a crucial figure in the fall of the Porfiriato. As a politician, he worked diligently to preserve the Díaz regime. As the heir-apparent to the presidency after Díaz's death, Corral became a symbol against whom the opponents of the dictatorship of Díaz could rally. In spite of Corral's importance, he has been ignored by post-revolutionary Mexican historians - no biography of Crral has appeared since 1910. The secondary sources for the Porfiriato are inadequate to a study of Corral's career. Therefore, research centered mostly on primary sources, chiefly those in the Colección General Porfirio Díaz (Cholula, Puebla), Mexico City Newspapers, the Corral Papers in the Centro de Estudios Históricos (Mexcio City), and the Archivo General del Estado and Archivo Histórico in Hermosillo, Sonora. The Colección General Porfirio Díaz at the University of the Americas was the most important since this depository is the most extensive collection of materials on the Porfiriato and the one used least by scholars. This essay attempts to fill some of the gaps in our knowledge of Corral's public life, especially for the period of his vice-presidency. It is divided into three parts, covering Corral's career in state and national politics and in exile. The study is basically chronological except for chapter two on Corral's role in Indian - primarily Yaqui - relations. This question was so important in Sonoran politics that a separate chapter seemed necessary.

The Influence of Transcendental Meditation on Anxiety

Description: This study was concerned with the degree to which the practice of transcendental meditation (TM) aids in the long-term reduction of anxiety. The Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale (TMAS), short form, was given to 16 Ss about to learn the technique of TM and to 16 control Ss. Eighteen weeks later, the TMAS was again administered to both groups. A significant difference was found in TMAS score reduction between the two groups, with the meditation group showing the greater reduction. These findings lend support to the hypothesis that TM aids in the long-term reduction of anxiety. It is recommended that further research in this area be undertaken to further validate the results of this study.

An accompanying production book describes the making of NTN, examines the background against which NT2 was proposed, describes problems and procedures of production, analyzes the film, and offers recommendations for other university film productions,

Sino-American Affiliation and Identification with the American Society: A Study of Chinese Students at North Texas State University

Description: This study examines interrelationships between Chinese students' associations with each other, with American friends, and their identification with American society. Fifty-three randomly-selected Chinese students at North Texas State University were interviewed in May, 1974. The resulting data was tested by Chi-square and Gamma tests. The finding are an follows In the United States, Chinese students are in a dynamic adjustment process. In their early stay, Chinese students with high scores of a affiliation with Americans have low scores of identification with American society. However, affiliation with other Chinese brings satisfaction and further identification. Therefore, Chinese students with high scores of affiliation with each other have high scores of identification with Americans.
