Concerto Grosso for Oboe, Clarinet, Piano, and String Quartet

Description: The first movement of the present work is a French overture patterned in form after the overtures of Jean Baptiste Lully. The second movement (Lento) is a simple ABA song-form and presents a rather rhapsodic development of its theme. The third movement consists of a set of six continuous variations on the polyphonic chanson Revecy venu du printans by Claude le Jeune (1528-1600). The last movement is a rondo (ABACADA).

Three Lyrics

Description: The libretto of Three Lyrics was written by Terry Blake, a minster for the North Amarillo Church of Christ in Amarillo, Texas. The first and last cantos are paeans to the harp and guitar, respectively. The second canto is a gentle elegy to Time and Death. The use of nature and its manifestations serve to unite the three poems.

Interpretations of Hamlet's Delay

Description: Perhaps the most universally discussed problem in the interpretation of the character of Hamlet is the reason for his delay in carrying out the Ghost's commands and revenging the murder of his father. Certainly Shakespeare makes no mention of the reason for Hamlet's delay. The fact that critics have never been able to untangle this mystery proves that the solution is not presented in an obvious form in the play.

Stravinsky's use of the Trumpet and Cornet

Description: This thesis examines the history of the use of trumpet and cornet, and analyzes their use in several Stravinsky pieces: Petroushka, The Rite of Spring, L'Histoire du soldat, and Ragtime. The study concludes that Stravinsky, at the time of the composition of the analyzed pieces, was instrumental in elevating the cornets and trumpets to a more important position in the orchestra.
