Making meaning out of difference: a cultural studies analysis of the struggle over the meaning of gayness in "Ellen" and Time Magazine

Description: This study revealed sites of ideological differences between the April 30, 1997 episode of the sit com "Ellen" and an April 14th, 1997 Time magazine article where Ellen Degeneres (and the character she played on television) came out as a lesbian. This study examines the two pieces of media as a struggle over the meaning of gayness in modern American society.

Critical factors in successful Texas middle schools 1993-1995

Description: An examination of the characteristics of Texas middle schools was conducted with the objective of developing a planning tool for middle staffs. This success is measured by the Academic excellence Indicator System (AEIS), whose rating scale has three components: campus scores on the Texas Assessment of Basic Skills (TAAS), campus attendance percentages, and campus dropout rates. TAAS scores and attendance rates have been the focus of this study.

Assessing the feasibility of developing a DBAE curriculum in Qatar utilizing multimedia technology

Description: The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the feasibility of developing an art curriculum in Qatar, using the principles of the DBAE curriculum in conjunction with technology. Many of the challenges facing art educators and the art curriculum in Qatar can be approached through the multimedia applications of DBAE, which will provide instructors and students with an opportunity to more readily interact with visual art and to discover its educational relevance. Additionally, this study attempted to discover whether teachers are engaged in implementing technology in the art classroom and whether they are given the opportunity to engage in art to their satisfaction.

The effectiveness of Say It Straight communications training with adults in outpatient chemical dependency treatment
