Purification and Characterization of a Differentiation Factor From Rat Lung Conditioned Medium

Description: A Differentiation Factor (DF) was purified from rat lung conditioned medium by a four-steps procedure. The DF has a molecular weight of 27000, and an isoelectric point of 4.70. Although DF is stable up to 60°C, it is sensitive to digestion by trypsin, chymotrypsin and subtilisin. DF forms granulocyte colonies in soft agar. Studies using anti-NRK CSF antibody demonstrated that DF is distinct from GM-CSF.

Aspects of Fathead Minnow Reproductive Behavior

Description: Following a study of normal reproductive behavior of fathead minnows, Pimephales promelas, experiments were conducted to determine the stability/variability of behavior by sexually mature, territorial males under a variety of manipulated conditions. Collectively, these experiments indicate that although the individual behaviors of fathead minnows appear to be quite variable, the overall process, reproductive behavior, is stable.

Investigation Into the Causes for the Loss of Resolution in an Ion Chromatograpy Resin

Description: Four mechanisms were considered as possible causes of the loss in resolution for a Dionex CG2 ion chromatography resin: 1) presence of inorganic ions strongly bound to the active sites; 2) adsorption of organic species; 3) physical alterations; and 4) chemical alterations. Production, Location, and Binding of Violacein in Janthinobacterium

Description: Violacein is a purple pigment typically produced by species of Chromobacterium and Janthinobacterium. A soil isolate, identified as Janthinobacterium, was studied. Maximal pigmentation occurred at 250C under aerobic conditions in the Keeble and Cross medium. Intracellular pigment was shown to be located in the cell membrane. Description: This study explored the effects of counselor dress style and counselor and subject gender on clients' expectations about counseling. Effects of Lysolecithin on Macrophages

Description: The effect of lysolecithin on the macrophage was studied using five macrophage function assays. The results of indicate that lyso lecithin is a macrophage activating agent which causes enhanced cell spreading, increased phagocytosis of sheep erythrocytes, heightened membrane activity in the presence of damaged autologous red blood cells, chemotaxis, and vigorous phagocytosis and intracellular killing of Staphylococcus albus.

Stress Level, Background Variables, Premorbid Health Ratings, and Severity of Psychological Disorders Using DSM-III-R Ratings

Description: This study predicted that individuals diagnosed as having higher levels of stress, based upon DSM-III-R, Axis IV ratings, would also be diagnosed as having more severe forms of mental illness. Ion Chromatography of Soluble Cr(III) and Cr(VI)

Description: Ion chromatography coupled with a conductivity detector was used to investigate the analysis of Cr(III) and Cr(VI) in aqueous samples. An IC methodology for Cr(III) was developed using a cation column and an eluent containing tartaric acid, ethylenediamine, and acetonitrile at pH 2.9.
