The Effect of Toasting on the Protein Quality of White Bread and White Bread Supplemented with Soybean

Description: Supplemented and unsupplemented white breads were baked and toasted at three different toaster settings, light, medium, and dark. Organoleptically, products were highly accepted when toasted at the light and medium temperatures. Iron Status of Students at North Texas State University

Description: Hematocrit, serum-iron and iron-binding capacity were used to test the iron status of a sample of fifty-six volunteer students. Subjects completed a questionnaire to examine whether a correlation exists between iron status and iron knowledge. The sample, including 20 males and 36 females, consisted of ten nutrition majors , eight biology majors, thirty-eight other majors, and eight vegetarians. A Comparison of Thermogenesis by Selected Substrates on Hypothermic Rat Liver

Description: The thermogenic effects in hypothermia of four substrates--alanine, glycine, ethano, and pyruvate - were studied in seventeen experiments. Albino rats were decapitated, and their livers were removed. The livers were homogenized with phosphate buffer at -5° C. After equilibration in a refrigerated Warburg apparatus at 20° C, the substrates were added and tissue respiration was recorded over three hours. Description: A modified ascending thin layer chromatographic technique has been developed which resolves the major phospholipid and neutral lipid classes of five common fluids and tissues. Training Program Evaluation: A Comparison of the Effectiveness of School Versus On-the-Job Training

Description: The hypothesis was investigated that school training was more effective than on-the-job training. Of a sample of 349 male subjects, 217 received on-the-job training and 132 received school training. Data were collected and analyzed on tenure, performance, promotions, salary increases, and accidents. Training type had a significant positive correlation with tenure and accident occurrence at the .01 and .05 level, respectively, and a significant correlation with salary increase at the .05 level. … more

A Descriptive Study of Sexual Child Abuse in Texas

Description: Validated reports of sexually abused children from 1975 through 1977 were examined. Considered were the victim's age, sex, ethnic group, type of abuse, living arrangement, and relationship to perpetrator. Cigarette Residues Affect Steroidogenesis in Cultured Y-1 Mouse Adrenal Tumor Cells

Description: This study (1) quantitatively compared steroid production in cultured Y-l mouse adrenal tumor cells exposed to Camel and Carlton-smoke derived residues, and (2) localized the effects in the cell. Basal steroid production was increased by Camel residues but not by Carlton, while ACTH stimulation was interfered with by both residues. Tolerance to the Behavioral Effects of Methylphenidate

Description: Thirty-one rats were trained on a differential reinforcement of low rate schedule. After responding had stabilized, animals were injected with methylphenidate, twice weekly, presession. Methylphenidate produced dose-dependent increases in response rates and decreases in reinforcements.
