Stimulus Values of the Bender Visual Motor Gestalt Test Designs

Description: The purpose of this study is to investigate differences in the stimulus value of the Bender Gestalt designs. It is concerned with both differences in structural values and affective values of the nine figures. The investigation is primarily concerned with the reliability of such differences, and secondarily with the general nature of the differences in stimulus value.

The Treatment of Nature in Thomas Hardy's Six Major Novels

Description: The purpose of this thesis is to examine Thomas Hardy's treatment of nature in his major works. His interpretation of nature was sharply divergent from the traditional viewpoint regarding the natural world, and it was the direct antithesis of those interpretations of nature made by the writers who had preceded him.

A Comparative Study of Anxiety between Science and Art Majors

Description: The purpose of this study is to determine the levels of anxiety in college freshmen and seniors from the Departments of Science and Art at North Texas State College by using the Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale. It is hoped that the findings uncovered by this study will be of help to others interested in investigating and exploring this area.

T-Functions

Description: The main purpose of this paper is to make a detailed study of a certain class T of complex functions. The functions of the class T have a special mapping property and are meromorphic in every region. As an application of this study, certain elementary functions are defined and studied in terms of a special T-function.

Topological Groups

Description: The notion of a topological group follows naturally from a combination of the properties of a group and a topological space. Since a group consists of a set G of elements which may be either finite or infinite and since this is also common to a topological space, a question is opened as to whether or not it is possible to assign a topology to a set of elements which form a group under a certain operation. Now it is possible to assign a topology to any set of elements if no restriction is placed on the topology assigned and hence this study would be of little value from the standpoint of the group itself. If however it is required that the group operation be continuous in the topological space then a very interesting theory is developed.

A System for Measurement of Negative-Ion Charge-Exchange Cross Sections

Description: A radio-frequency positive-ion source and a fifty-kilovolt linear accelerator were designed and constructed in order to produce sizable quantities of hydrogen, helium, nitrogen, neon, and argon. Plans were then made to equip this ion source with charge-exchange apparatus suitable for charge-exchange cross-sectional measurements. It is the purpose of this paper to present the design of the equipment and to present operational knowledge of the equipment and of ion beams which are producible.

The Theme of Isolation in the Novels of Daniel Defoe

Description: It is the purpose of this paper to illustrate from the novels themselves that Defoe's protagonists are essentially isolated individuals and that this isolation is the result of the circumstances of their births, the nature of their professions, their spiritually isolating religious beliefs, and their attitudes toward their fellow men.

Anxiety in Jailees as Indicated by the Rorschach Test

Description: This study concerns an evaluation of anxiety levels in jailees awaiting trial in a county jail. Detecting anxiety which had been overtly controlled, and apparently hidden called for the use of a projective technique. Such an instrument would have the additional advantage of minimizing the effect of the observer upon the observed.

Finite Dimensional Vector Space

Description: The object of this thesis is to examine properties of an abstract vector space of finite dimension n. The properties of the set of complex numbers are assumed, and the definition of a field and of an abelian group are not stated, although reference to these systems is made.

Use of a Level of Aspiration Technique with Academically Successful and Unsuccessful College Sophomores

Description: The problem of this thesis is the degree of aspiration (level of aspiration) exhibited by students with high or low levels of academic performance. With these levels established by the use of a standardized test designed for this purpose, this study is concerned more specifically with testing two hypotheses.
