The Church and the Segregation Crisis in the South

Description: Segregation, as in other realms of American life, is a great problem of the churches. Although the Supreme Court decision and call for action by the President have produced few revolutionary changes, the churches of the South have taken steps to cope with this problem. Slow and faltering though these moves may be, they represent a new awakening on the part of individual churches to a pressing social responsibility.

Infrared Studies of Anions of Barbituric Acids

Description: As long ago as 1881, it was realized that a functional group of atoms in a molecule would cause an absorption band to appear at a particular frequency in the infrared spectrum of the molecule. In more recent years, the concept of characteristic group frequencies has become firmly established and has resulted in the present widespread use of infrared spectroscopy. There appear to have been relatively few studies of infrared absorption of organic acids as compared with their salts.

A Set of Axioms for a Topological Space

Description: Axioms for a topological space are generally based on neighborhoods where "neighborhood" is an undefined term. Then, limit points are defined in terms of neighborhoods. However, limit points seem to be the basic concept of a topological space, rather than neighborhoods. For this reason, it will be attempted to state a set of axioms for a topological space, using limit point as the undefined concept, and to delete the idea of neighborhoods from the theory.

Anxiety in Jailees as Indicated by the Rorschach Test

Description: This study concerns an evaluation of anxiety levels in jailees awaiting trial in a county jail. Detecting anxiety which had been overtly controlled, and apparently hidden called for the use of a projective technique. Such an instrument would have the additional advantage of minimizing the effect of the observer upon the observed.
