A Structural Analysis of The Brothers Karamazov

Description: The purpose of this thesis is to reveal the structural unity of The Brothers Karamazov through the isolation and analyzation of the various techniques used by Dostoyevsky to unify the novel. In order to retain more than a few impressions and remembrances of outstanding events, in order to retain the novel itself, the reader needs to be aware of the structure of the work. If the fullest realization of the novel depends upon the reader's perception of its structure, the structure becomes the impo… more

Metabolism of Hydrocortisone by X-Irradiated Rat Liver Tissue as Determined by the Porter-Silber Chromagen Method

Description: The present study may be considered endocrinological and radiobiological in nature. The endocrinology phase was concerned with studying the changes in endocrine function following the application of a stress agent. X-irradiation was chosen as the stressor in order to determine any difference in effect of this stressor from others which have been studied, e. g. heat, cold, metabolic poisons. Liver slices taken from rats at various time intervals following whole body X-irradiation were tested for… more

Techniques and Content in Thornton Wilder: a Critical Re-Evaluation

Description: The aim of this paper is not to disprove previous interpretations of Wilder's work, but to enlarge on them. This paper shall attempt to show that Wilder's major thematic material falls into two interlocking and overlapping groups. Repeatedly Wilder deals with the relationship of man to something beyond himself, and the relationship of man to individual man and to mank… more

Quaternion Representation of Crystal Point Groups

Description: The physical behavior of crystalline solids is very closely related to the internal symmetry of the crystal structure. For this reason it is desirable to represent mathematically this symmetry in such a way that the actual physical problems can be handled as they arise. In the case of this thesis the research has been guided by a list of desired properties for such a representation. No claim is made that the list is complete.
