Single-Step Photochemical Formation of Near-Infrared-Absorbing Gold Nanomosaic within PNIPAm Microgels: Candidates for Photothermal Drug Delivery

Description: Article demonstrating the dynamic potential for tailoring the surface plasmon resonance (SPR), size, and shapes of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) starting from an Au(I) precursor, chloro(dimethyl sulfide)gold (I) (Au(Me2S)Cl), in lieu of the conventional Au(III) precursor hydrogen tetrachloroaurate (III) hydrate (HAuCl4). This approach presents a one-step method that permits regulation of an Au(I) precursor to form either visible-absorbing gold nanospheres or near-infrared-window (NIRW)-absorbing a… more

Effect of surfactants on pressure-sensitivity of carbon nanotube filled cement mortar composites

Description: In this article, the pressure-sensitivity of CNT filled cement mortar composites with different concentrations of MWNT and different surfactants is investigated under repeated loading and impulsive loading, respectively. Experimental results indicate that the response of the electrical resistance of composites with NaDDBS to external force is more stable and sensitive than that of composites with SDS. Therefore, NaDDBS has higher efficiency than SDS for the dispersion of MWNT in cement mortar, … more

Energy Conversion During Expansion of a Solid-Particle-Entrained Gas

Description: This article describes pneumatic energy being converted into solid particle kinetic energy as a solid-particle-entrained gas that flows downward through a vertical nozzle. For the conditions studied, the solid particles serve as a heat exchange medium to enable a gas expansion that is nearly isothermal. Also, the kinetic energy associated with the two-phase fluid is predominantly that associated with subsonic solid-particle motion. The kinetic energy of the solid particles is converted into oth… more
