Dissecting the transcriptional regulation of proanthocyanidin and anthocyanin biosynthesis in soybean (Glycine max)

Description: This article analyzes the transcriptional control of PA and anthocyanin biosynthesis in soybean. Results show that engineered PA biosynthesis in soybean exhibits qualitative and spatial differences from the better-studied model systems Arabidopsis thaliana and Medicago truncatula, and suggest targets for engineering PAs in soybean plants.

Production of tocotrienols in seeds of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.) enhances oxidative stability and offers nutraceutical potential

Description: This article generates transgenic cotton lines expressing the barley (Hordeum vulgare) homogentisate geranylgeranyl transferase coding sequence under the control of the Brassica napus seed-specific promoter, napin. Findings may provide new opportunities for cottonseed co-products with enhanced vitamin E profile for improved shelf life and nutrition.

Structural Modeling and in planta Complementation Studies Link Mutated Residues of the Medicago truncatula Nitrate Transporter NPF1.7 to Functionality in Root Nodules

Description: This article combines in silico structural predictions with in planta complementation of the severely defective mtnip-1 mutant plants to understand the role of a series of distinct amino acids in the transporter’s function. The findings add to the knowledge of the mechanism of alternative conformational changes as well as symport transport in NPFs and enhance knowledge of the mechanisms for nitrate signaling.

The Long-Term Effects of Developmental Hypoxia on Cardiac Mitochondrial Function in Snapping Turtles

Multi-scale biodiversity drives temporal variability in macrosystems

Evidence of Endozoochory in Upland Geese Chloephaga picta and White-Bellied Seedsnipes Attagis malouinus in Sub-Antarctic Chile

Description: This article evaluates the role of endozoochory in herbivorous and sympatric bird species in sub-Antarctic Chile. The authors hypothesize that fragments of bryophyte gametophytes retrieved from their feces are viable and capable of regenerating new plant tissue. This relationship may have important implications in the way bryophytes disperse and colonize habitats facing climate change.

Diffusion Entropy vs. Multiscale and Rényi Entropy to Detect Progression of Autonomic Neuropathy

Description: This article reviews the literature to argue the importance of the occurrence of crucial events in the dynamics of physiological processes. Crucial events are interpreted as short time intervals of turbulence, and the time distance between two consecutive crucial events is a waiting time distribution density with an inverse power law (IPL) index µ, with µ < 3 generating non-stationary behavior.

A cytoskeletal function for PBRM1 reading methylated microtubules

Description: This article shows that that the coordinated read-write activity of the epigenetic machinery extends to the cytoskeleton, with PBRM1 in the PBAF chromatin remodeling complex reading microtubule methyl marks written by the SETD2 histone methyltransferase. This article opens a previously unknown window into how chromatin remodeler defects can drive disease via both epigenetic and cytoskeletal dysfunction.

Weak-Light Image Enhancement Method Based on Adaptive Local Gamma Transform and Color Compensation

Description: This article proposes a correction method for image enhancement models based on an adaptive local gamma transformation and color compensation inspired by the illumination reflection model. It is demonstrated that the proposed method adaptively reduces the influence of uneven illumination to avoid overenhancement and improves the visual effect of low-light images.
