Assessing distribution shifts and ecophysiological characteristics of the only Antarctic winged midge under climate change scenarios

Description: Article integrating ecophysiological information with the development of new high-resolution climatic layers for Antarctica, to better understand how the distribution of P. steinenii may respond to change over the next century under different IPCC climate change scenarios. The authors conclude that the species has the potential to expand its distribution to include parts of the west and east coasts of the Antarctic Peninsula and even coastal ice-free areas in parts of continental Antarctica. Assessment of Safe Listening Intentional Behavior Toward Personal Listening Devices in Young Adults

Description: This article explores the use of Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to identify attitudes, social norms, and behavioral control in 92 young adults toward two intentional behaviors related to safe listening habits while listening to their personal listening devices: (1) lowering the intensity of loud music, and (2) shortening the listening duration of loud music. Linear regression findings indicated that the overall TPB models were significant. Positive attitudes toward turning the music down and … more

Automatic trend detection: Time-biased document clustering

Description: This article presents a novel approach of introducing a weighted temporal feature to bias a topic clustering toward articles in a similar time frame, performed over a set of finance journal abstracts from 1974 to 2020 to demonstrate how time can be emphasized in trend detection. The authors detect trending finance topics that are not identifiable when we use a standard clustering approach with no temporal bias.

Baker's yeast beta glucan supplementation was associated with an improved innate immune mRNA expression response after exercise

Description: This article states that beta glucans are found in many natural sources, however, only Baker’s Yeast Beta Glucan (BYBG) has been well documented to have structure–function effects that are associated with improved innate immune response to stressors (e.g., exercise, infection, etc.). The identified mRNA whose expression was altered after exercise with BYBG may represent an innate immune response pattern and supports previous conclusions that BYBG improves immune response to a future sterile inf… more
