This article examines the use of metal-containing polymers as a novel class of antivirals. Polymers containing platinum and to a lesser extent tin, have repeatedly demonstrated antitumor activity in vitro and in vivo against a variety of cell and tumor types. The mechanisms responsible for the antitumor activity include inducing a delay in cell proliferation and sister chromatid exchanges blocking tumor growth.
This article explores the relationship between smoking cessation interventions and suicidality and explore common treatments, their associated risks, and effectiveness in promoting smoking reduction and abstinence.
Article on calculations predicting that carbon tunneling allows the degenerate cope rearrangement of semibullvalene to occur rapidly at cryogenic temperatures.
This article presents finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) simulations on total light absorption (TLA) resulting from the coupling of a surface plasmon polariton (SPP) with Fabry-Pérot (F-P) resonance in a three-layer structure consisting of an AZO square lattice hole array, a spacer, and a layer of silver.
This article describes two studies of individuals with high levels of psychopathic traits. Study 1 explores what aspects of social reward are associated with psychopathic traits, and Study 2 administers these measures to a new group of participants along with two experimental tasks investigating monetary and social reward value.
This article investigates the formation of magnetobound positronium and protonium via classical trajectory simulations of binary point charge interactions in an external magnetic field. The results of computer simulations of the fully three-dimensional trajectories of classical and non-relativistic point charges with the same mass, equal charge magnitude, and opposite sign are reported. The simulations show the formation of magnetobound positronium and protonium. The results yield formation cross sections, which are compared to analytical expressions. Additionally, the results reveal that magnetobound states drift across magnetic field lines.
This article studies the silkworm Bombyx mori, and hypothesizes that allometric relationships for metabolism both across all developmental stages and within each stage would not reflect conventional scaling coefficients.
This article discusses a study to investigate 3 aspects of minimization, as defined by the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire's (CTQ) Minimization-Denial (MD) scale: 1) its prevalence; 2) its latent structure; and finally 3) whether minimization moderates the CTQ's discriminative validity in terms of distinguishing between psychiatric patients and community volunteers.
This article examines the relationship between neighborhood-level socioeconomic deprivation and weight change in a multi-ethnic cohort from Dallas County, Texas, and whether behavioral/psychosocial factors attenuate the relationship.
This article demonstrates that whole genome sequencing is an efficient approach for identification of causative genes underlying symbiotic nitrogen fixation defective phenotypes in Medicago truncatula Tnt1 insertion mutants obtained via forward genetic screens.
This article discusses ethics and pushing philosophy outside of its comfort zone at the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics (APPE) annual meeting.
Article describes study suggesting that the inhibation of sphingosine kinase 1 (SPHK1) can attenuate ERK1/2 and AKT signaling and reduce growth of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) cells in vitro and in a xenograft SCID mouse model.
This article shows that the Borsuk-Ulam theorem applies also to multisensory integration: two environmental stimuli from different sensory modalities display similar features when mapped into cortical neurons.
